The database shows two different Ids for Provo and Orem Fire and Police Departments are listed on both Utah County Frequency 867.6625 and BYU's. I have tried to get it on the BYU sites, but I am not able to find the control channels, however the control channels listed in the UCAN database for BYU do not pick up any traffic. Can anyone tell me if they use the same frequencies or what the correct cotrol channels are?

I'm not sure I fully understand your question, so I'll say this:

Provo and Orem are on the UCAN system (7202) which in Utah County the control channel will be 867.6625. You can look at the list of IDs under UCAN to see the full list.

BYU has their own system for most of their operations. The main BYU PD dispatch seems to be on the UCAN system now, and not the BYU system.

Provo PD has at least one car-car channel they use on the BYU system. I'm not sure what Provo Fire uses when they go onto campus.
Does that answer the question?

Forgot one thing:

If I remember correctly, BYU rotates 4 different control channels. All the freqs that end in .9125 can be control channels (it's been a while since I monitored them).

Sorry, one last thing. The ID list for BYU is not accurate at all. The list was put up a long time ago (before I was DB admin).

Several years ago, before UCAN really got going, there was talk of expanding the BYU/Provo system. Many of the TGs on the BYU list were never created because Provo joined with UCAN. So, the list is good for looking up the IDs that you hear on the system, but not so good for knowing in advance what traffic will be on the system. Many of the IDs are not in use.

So far I have left the list alone, just becuase it is very hard to know for sure that a TG ID is really not in use or will never be used. It would take several months of constant monitoring to know for sure if the TGs were never going to be used (or help from a BYU radio engineer).

BYU and Provo

Maybe this will help a little. Provo is on UCAN and BYU has their own system as discribed in earlier traffic. However, BYU PD has talk groups on UCAN and they do most of their PD communications there. I too listen very little to BYU and only switch over there when Provo goes to channel 4.

Provo's channel four is where they go when they want to think they are being sneaky and nobody can follow where their conversation has gone. I have friends in the Provo PD department and I am good friends with one of their communications cordinators and I have told them that is not always effective nor secure. Maybe for the casual scanner listener but not for the more serious listener.
