Been lurking for almost a month here... I am really impressed with the amount of info on here and people's willingness to help out/provide info. Figured I might as well try to contribute myself...

I think the BYU trunking frequencies may be a little bit out of date. I have been running Unitrunker on the BYU site from Orem Center Street and I got the following result (See attachment...). It looks to me like BYU is not rebanded/is running a standard band plan.

I just got a PSR-500 and just started messing with Unitrunker, so I'm still a rookie at this, so can anyone out there confirm what I'm seeing?

Thanks...

Welcome to the Utah Forum of RR.com
SMHeaton

I've seen you lurking in the shadows for a while. Figured you'd say hello when you were ready to join us. Hope you have found out that we don't bite.

It's great to see someone pay attention to the Provo/Utah County/BYU TRS. That system has been ignored and I think that is a big mistake. Some of the TGs I've seen on that system could be very attractive for scanning. I even asked about it a little while ago concerning rebanding but my answer was that it may not have to because it technically is not a public service system. So I dunno.

I'm not acquainted with UniTrunker, but I'm glad that someone is using it on this system for some updated information. Hopefully someone who understands what you have attached can give you some pointers or interpret what is there.

Again, welcome. With as many new members as we are getting south of SL, someone might have to organize a "face-to-face." Of course, us in the SL valley would be very insulted if we were not invited. :D

Hi SMHeaton, thanks for joining. Any help with my Utah County information would be greatly appreciated.

http://www.qsl.net/kd7rto/utah/utco.htm

BYU Police have moved to UCAN, but I'd be willing to bet that there are still some operations worth monitoring on that BYU system. Glad to see a participant in this forum putting some effort into it.

Since the BYU system is not "Public Safety" and is a private system I would assume that the are not affected by rebanding. Is that correct?

Sorry for my delay in replying to this...

qlajlu, thanks for the welcome. Indeed, I have not been bitten yet. :)

kd7rto, I glanced at your page earlier, but am unable to get to it now. Did you take it down for some reason? I would be happy to try to help out with your questions, although there are certainly other people here better-equipped to do that.

Utah_Viper. I would assume you are correct about BYU and rebanding. Certainly, everything I've seen so far indicates that it has not been rebanded.

One thing I did notice about BYU is I believe I found Provo PD Channel 4 on TG 3328. I was on Provo PD 1 on UCAN and heard a unit ask another unit to "Switch to 4." I had a second scanner scanning BYU's frequencies and heard the same unit ask, "Are you on 4?" on that TG. I might have misheard, or it might have been a coincidence, but I think that is PPD 4. Can anyone out there confirm this?

There is a good chance that you are indeed listening to Provo PD’s car to car. I know back in 1997, I was helping start up the State Hospital’s Police Dept. and we were moving all of our radios over to the 800 band. The hospital was some how tied into BYU’s system and Provo police also had some of their car to car channels tied into their system also. There is a possibility that Provo still has some channels in BYU’s system.
Maybe Provo has kept some channels on BYU’s system so they can have inter-agency communications.

I have traced Provo's PD Channel 4 to BYU's system. I have also heard some Provo Traffic on TG 18000, which seems to be a simocast of Provo's Fire Dispatch. BYU has what I think are i-calls going all the time. If you search you will pick them up all the time.

That can't be right, or if it is, then our Database is wrong because I do not find that TG 03328 in either the UCAN Utah County TGs or in the Provo/Utah County/BYU TGs.

I need to get my optometrist to change my prescription, I guess. Yep, that TG is there and in fact, SMHeaton talks about it in post #5 above.

Thanks. I made the change. Are the other Provo PD channels listed on the BYU system still valid, or has Provo PD moved primarily to UCAN? I've wondered what the long-term trend is on these two (competing?) systems.

Have you found any other public safety, security, or state hospital groups on the BYU system that would be worth listening to?

Other than the PD4 talkgroup that daranged spoke of I've heard nothing. There are a few patches to the UCAN fire/EMS TGs and I believe that BYU has their own EMS TG on their system but that's all I've heard. I'm not in an area where I can pick up their CC here at home. Besides I can't stand listening to the BYU system in open mode. Too much chit chat about NOTHING!!!! Most of it is stuff like "Did you move the projector to the Fine Arts Building?" and "Can you send someone with a key to open the Physical Plant?"
Before UCAN there was talk of using the BYU trunking system throughout UtCo but that was abandoned many moons ago. Hence the TG's for American Fork and Payson on the database.
Whenever I've heard something juicy in Provo they usually use the Tac channels (Tac 7 or 8 since tac 6 is a FD responce TG). These used to be County OPs channels 6, 7, 8 but now UtCo uses the old ops TGs 1 through 5 and Provo uses 6 through 10.

I logged and recorded the BYU system in Provo for several days over Christmas. I'm still sorting massive amounts of data from several recent trips. But soon I'll post a list of the BYU TGs I logged, and I can use the recordings to identify any new ones.

At some point we should decide which TGs are history and delete them from the DB.

Unfortunately I can't confirm or deny this because my scanner didn't log frequencies, and I had all of them listed. Hopefully someone else can check the cc over a couple days and report back.

BYU system rotates the control channel. It did at least when I monitored it.
