Listen, I originally responded to your quote "Don't worry about SWR on a Rx only system"

First of all...we basically ruined the OP's thread . . ..

I hope we did not "ruin" the OP's thread. Hopefully he (and others) have not been confused into thinking that using RG-6 75 ohm cable on a 50 ohm system is a bad thing.

As I have said, (and continue to stand on) "Don't worry about SWR in an RX only system."

OK, to be fair, don't go crazy and put 600 ohm ladder line on a low impedance antenna, but we were dealing with coax, so that was not in the realm of possibilities.

For scanners, sure, 75ohm stuff works fantastic, but that's not what I was debating. Heck, we have some 75ohm antenna's going into 50 Ohm heliax, for "monitoring" only though, not tx ;-)

I hate that quote.

It just doesn't make sense. I mean i know it won't damage the radio, but it will hurt reception. We had a VHF air antenna on a "rx only system" with a swr of 3:1, and it brought range down from about 200 miles, to 30 miles.

Replaced it, and got more than the required 200...

End rant.

OK, now I understand.
