By Thorndale Fire Company August 27, 2010 On Friday, August 27th, 2010 the Thorndale Fire Company was dispatched along with Westwood Ambulance at 0642 to an auto accident on the Route 30 Bypass Eastbound at Route 322 in Caln Township.
After multiple reports to the County 911 Center, it was determined that a motorcycle was involved. Medic 93 was then dispatched to assist.
Christiana Lancaster Deputy Chief Meadowcroft, while on his way to work, was first to arrive on scene. He reported that there was one patient down in the roadway.
Due to the patient's condition, Sky FlightCare was dispatched to the scene to airlift the patient to a trauma center.
Chief Taylor arrived minutes later and established "Route 30 Command."
Rescue 38 responded at 0648 and Traffic 38 responded at 0651.
Due to the rush hour traffic, it was difficult for units to get to the scene.
Engine 38 and Squad 38 responded to the Downingtown Middle School to establish a landing zone area for the air medical helicopter.
Upon Westwood Ambulance 44-1's arrival, the patient was quickly loaded and along with Medic 93 and transport began to the Downingtown Middle School where Sky FlightCare had landed.
The patient was then airlifted to a Crozer Chester Medical Center's local trauma center.
All Thorndale Fire units cleared the scene at 0732, with Fire Police remaining on the scene until 0814 to assist the Police Department during rush hour traffic. Units: Rescue 38, Engine 38, Squad 38, and Traffic 38 Mutual Aid: Westwood Ambulance 44-1, Medic 93-2, and Skycare 1
