I have it paused on 146.4 (PL 177.3)

Every few minutes, a computerized voice comes on and (phonetically) reads a bunch of numbers and letters.

I've been writing them down.

It's a report of HF openings (DX). It comes loosely under the heading of 'telemetry'.

I'm sorry, I really have no idea what any of that means.

I kind of understand telemetry as being a way to remotely report data of some kind, from somewhere to somewhere else.

So, what do the letters and numbers mean?

uh..ok. So the letters are callsigns and the numbers are frequencies?

Yes. For example, the first one on the list is OX3MC in Greenland (he's an electronics technician at Thule Air Base).
The second one is CP6XE, a QSL manager in Bolivia.
Go to this site and type in the various call signs to find out who and where they are.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the link http://www.qrz.com

WWDX Club

This is the Western Washington DX Club repeater - Ham Radio 2 meter, input frequency is 146.40 and the output frequency is 147.00. Their link is at wwdxc.org - Home.

Holy crap that is so cool!!

So, are they broadcasting their info so that others from this area can try to contact them?

Do folks from this area do that kind of thing on repeaters in Greenland and Bolivia too?

It's usually a local person who reports they've heard the DX station. Years ago on that repeater you would just pick up the microphone and announce "hey I've worked P40V - Aruba", but now it's done thru either Packet Radio or relayed via someone logging it on the internet.

I will usually listen in, to get an idea where the opening are.

Note, that the bulk of the reports are for HF frequencies, but you will also hear 6 meter (52-54mhz) and 2 Meter (144-148 Mhz) reports occasionally - something to consider if you are looking for DX on VHF or UHF.

Oh man, That info about qrz.com is great! Why did it get deleted? I think that is so neat!

That guy from Thule is awesome! He has some great pictures on that page!

Not sure why it was deleted, but thanks for the tips!
