I have ordered a sds200.

First I need to register the scanner with Uniden yes?

Second connect to Sentinel and update any firmware yes?

Can I use my already created programmed files from Sentinel software from my 536 to copy into the sds200? I think I can but checking......

I assume that the Sentinel software will auto recognize what scanner is connected at the time so switching between scanners is no issue?

What else hints do I need to know. I have been reading here and watching videos about sds programing on tv. I'm still struggling to understand it even after using it for a few years. Sometimes I'll try to save a file and get error messages which I completely don't understand, it will lock up and I'll have to start that section over again. But I get it to work eventually.

Yes you can, when you open your 536 file, in sentinel go to tools and change target model to the SDS200.

Registration isn't required unless you intend on purchasing paid upgrades thru myuniden (DMR, NXDN, etc)

Yes, this would be a recommended step to take

Search the forums for error messages you encounter, chances are someone started a thread inquiring about them. If you're not able to find applicable results feel free to start a new thread on the Uniden Tech Discussion forum and someone will set you on the right path

When you're using Sentinel, from the top tool bar click on "Tools", then "Target Model" to select which scanner you have connected to Sentinel. There are different settings available in Sentinel depending on which scanner you are programming, such as display customizations for the SDS200 which aren't available on the BCD536HP.

1: Registration with Uniden is only necessary if you want the DMR and NXDN upgrades, as well as the waterfall upgrade. Did you do the same for the 536? The upgrade keys aren't transferable, as they're tied to your unit's ESN number.

2: Most definitely! Additionally, make sure your Sentinel is the latest version, too!

3: Through the "Export/Import Favorites" option, yes. Any Favorites List created from any Uniden scanner that uses either version of Sentinel (and your version of Sentinel works with both your 536 and your SDS200, just make sure when you switch between scanners, you change "target scanner" to the appropriate one).

4: You need to switch"set target as" to one or the other. It's not automatic.

5: There are "Easier to Read" online manuals for both of your scanners. They function similarly, with some differences. There's even one for Sentinel, as well.

(SDS100/200 Manual here.)
(SDS100/200 Sentinel Manual here.)
(436/536 Manual here.)

Finally, congratulations on getting an SDS200! I have its little sister, the SDS100, so it's familiar territory.
