Hello, I bought a digital scanner last week from RS, a TN location. The manager said that everything is warranted a limited 30 days due to the liquidation of RS. All other references in manuals and such are void. You should have at least a 30 day warranty on your scanner. I would push the issue beyond the district manager.
The manage told me that in the event something did go wrong in those 30 days from purchase, any store that had the same item could exchange it, if he didn't have any more in the store.
All legal stuff aside in a bankruptcy, you still have the right in California to be made whole again, in this case they should give you another scanner, as they cannot give you a refund.
It's called the "warranty of merchantability", which means that you pay for an item and it should work as advertised. They just can't sell you a dead item, because you paid for a working one and you didn't get it. Not your fault. I know they can be bas**rds but you need to go a little higher up the chain. I used to live in CA, and have had to press the issue.
The no refunds thing will apply if you just don't like it, or want to exchange it for something else. BUT since it never worked, you did not get what you paid for, and they need to give you an item that works. If they do, open the thing up right in front of them to test it.
Good luck, and let us know what happens.
PS Your receipt may show the text about a 30 day warranty, or a data which is the last day you could return an item that is defective.
