Typically this should be in the sports etc. forums but I wanted to ask the locals instead.

If anyone is going to be at the race weekend at CTMP (Mosport) this May long weekend, I'm looking for updates on frequencies for the NASCAR Canada Series.

I will be seeing them in July at Calabogie and would like to have some programmed already. All other series I'm not worried about. I can find them easily.

I know it will be likely a mix between regular analog FM with PL/DCS tones and DMR.

Cars, officials, whatever you can capture, I would appreciate. The TAFL is hit and miss. And so far this year, it's a miss.

As the official trackside radio communications vendor, I can assure you that NASCAR Canada Series do not use DMR for pit-to-car communications. It's all analog. Nothing prevents teams from having crew-to-crew DMR, to my knowledge (they wouldn't necessarily tell me) only NASCAR Offical's use DMR.

I would assume the lack of DMR is to avoid improper decoding of the DMR stream resulting in critical loss of audio. I also think the background noise would cause the Vocoder to have all kinds of issues. The few milliseconds processing delay for DMR should be negligible although races can be won or lost in 100ths of milliseconds.

Should any crew require secure comm's, there are still a few analog encryption modules around that would provide the tactical security needed for a race.

No. DMR is not allowed (per rules) to ensure the fans can listen in and make the experience that much better.

As I said, crew-to-crew can be digital and encrypted. Just not being done at this level of racing, it is in Xfinity and Cup with them sharing crews, equipment and so.

In general - and I mean for motorsports across the globe - most race team communications, either crew-crew or car-crew, are digital. The majority use NXDN many others use DMR. Digital is much better at background noise rejection than analog. As @mproy points out the main reason for analog is to allow the fans to continue to listen in, most have invested in analog scanners. Many series / teams accomplish this simply by rebroadcasting their digital car-crew link on a low power analog radio frequency. So this is what's the fans tune to, but it's not the 'real' car-crew radio link.

Just to be clear, all NASCAR sanctioned events can not use DMR for to-car or from-car communications. It's in the rulebook.

I will post my frequency list tomorrow, when I get a chance. The TAFL database has since been updated with some licenses for their series. Or at least a few entries. Searches for GP2025 or NASCAR 2025 and a few other search queries netted a few findings that I can start with.
