After installing Sentinel for my BCD436HP, I receive an error message similar to: "Database could not be read.
BCDx36HP Sentinel database might be corrupted.

Access to the path C:\Program Data\Uniden\BCDx36HP Sentinel Update is denied"

Tried uninstall and reinstall several times with same result.
Tried running as administrator also NG.
Need help.
Do I have scanner plugged into PC before installing/running Sentinel, or what?

Thanks

You don't need anything plugged in to install or run Sentinel. I have seen the Uniden databases go down for a period of time for updating. Your virus protection software may be preventing you from accessing the database. I was trying to update the firmware for a firefighter's scanner, but the protection on the firehouse wifi system blocked my access. See if you can turn off your protection and then try to update. Don't forget to enable the protection as soon as you finish.

Sentinel is not the problem. The problem is that the disk permissions are screwed up, and it can't access its own folder. Fix that, or Sentinel will never work.

Jon is spot on. I think the other post thought you couldn't download the updated DB, I could be wrong.

Go to microsoft support, they have a tool to fix security permissions on your hard drive.

Also run chkdsk on your c drive. Google it up if you don't know how.

Sentinel downloads a zipped file that it saves at C:\ProgramData\Uniden\BCDx36HP_Sentinel\Updater\MasterHpdb_xxxxx.gz
Have you tried accessing that file with Windows Explorer to see that at least you have full access? Double click on the gz file.

Thanks to TVENGR, jon, Hit_Factor and Ubbe for all the replies.
I got control (Full Access) of the folder then reinstalled Sentinel and all seems OK now.
I think reinstalling after getting access is the key.
Thanks to all,
Dick
