Excellent! So what do you guys think, will there be any future updates on the 651 since it is still in production?

Maybe... Maybe not.

Whistler's policy as far as future product announcements is pretty much the same as Uniden.

You won't find promises or announcements of future upgrades or products in GRE / Whistler land.

You'll see announcements of available upgrades when they're available.

And they are the only ones that would know.

It's reasonable to expect there may be updates for any current-production model. They may find a new bug (and squash it). But, it's also possible they may not release anything more.

In fact, several models have had updates even after EOP (End Of Production).

Reasonable to expect, but may not happen. There are firmware updates that have been available for sometime, but needs to be approved by RadioShack. The fact that they've made Scanner Master as their scanner customer support seems to indicate that they'll sell the units, but don't have any interest in providing service.

I've seen someone mention seeing factory loaded CPU 2.9 on some of the new batches of scanners they are selling, yet we don't see a CPU 2.9 update. Keep in mind that a CPU 2.9 update would also easily solve the "bricked" unit problem that have been bothered about for more than a year. Instead, the RadioShack is telling people to call a magic number (Scanner Master).

Updates

Truthfully, I haven't seen any bugs in my updated Pro-106, Pro-651 or even the PSR-500 myself that needed update correction [/b]that I know of[/b]. There could be some heretofore undiscovered bugs that I haven't noticed either due to my limited usage or my unawareness.

I am very happy with the performance of these radios. I tried a BC436HP for a couple of weeks but couldn't justify the price tag for the way I use my radios. Not that there is anything wrong with the 436, it's just not for me.

I just noticed this thread...

I have a psr500 (usa)

So do i need to have the cpu software already updated to a certain version or above before being able to use this latest upgrade??

No you do not, the most recent update will get you current from the original firmware.
