So your radios should cut out and get quite when you talk. I used Racing Electronics kits for a while now. I prefer RE for both customer service and support but your mileage may vary. As said there is a 9V battery for the intercom function to work. Sorry I dont know anyone that uses the Racing Radios version. Most all my contacts use RE instead. They are the supported vendor for NASCAR as well as many other divisions.
When I did use mine, my scanner/radio would mute when I push the PTT. Voice from one headset would come out on another headset.
I have since switched to radio only headsets and no longer use the intercom function. For 99% of the fans the intercom function works very well.
Did you pull out the 9V battery and check it ?
I did open the headphones to see that there was a battery in them; but didn't actually take them out and verify they are plugged in.
If they ARE plugged in; and this is "as good as it gets" and won't cut off when I talk; I may just make them take them back and buy RE instead.
THANKS

The set I use to own had a 9v battery behind one if the speakers in each headset. You accessed the battery by carefully removing the foam and speaker. On the set I owned the battery was required to make the push to talk function on the intercom operate.

I'm not familiar with this exact brand, but I might have a clue what is going on. They are marketed as a fan product, so they're designed to listen - to what comes through the scanner. The 3circuit connector if connected to another headset duplicates the scanner output in both pairs of headphones, and also passes through audio onto a common bus. The idea is simple. Each headphone unit listens to the common headphone level bus. Each microphone has a preamp in the headset to get the mic level up to the higher level (hence the need for batteries) and pressing the on ear cup PTT simply puts that headset's boom mic onto the speaker level line. The limit on the number of headsets makes it clear this is how things work. Feeding in the scanner in via the 3.5mm mono connector to one of the headphones should be muted when anyone presses their PTT button. My guess is it's just a voltage sensing mute - as soon as volts appear on the mic circuit of the headset with scanner attached. The videos on their site show the battery under one of the ear cup moulds.

We're trying to help here, so can you confirm if there is a battery in both the headsets? If so - it should work. The iso switch would, I suspect, just break the ring, so isolating the scanner headset from the rest of the loop.

Check out RACESCANNERS.com.
They have a Fan Link Original intercom system. You will need to provide your own scanner.
These are the best in my opinion. They are expensive at $649.99, (I paid $470 back in the day) but mine have lasted over 20 years and hundreds of races, no problems. Each headphone requires one 9-volt battery.
No push to talk button, just speak into the mike, and the scanner goes to background. Excellent noise reduction, light weight, very comfortable, they don't squeeze your head like some BTH models, even after races lasting several hours.
Good luck.
