I see many rave reviews for C. Crane’s CC Pocket radio. But it’s currently $80 on Amazon.

I‘m looking for a capable pocket radio, but I’m not paying $80. What else is out there that‘s a good pocket radio, preferably with a digital display, but cheaper? Otherwise, I might as well spend $10 and get an XHData D-220.

The Sangean DT-200X if you don’t need weather, or the Sangean DT-400W or DT-800 are good choices for a little more.
I have three of the older CC Pocket radios that I use, one is still in the box. I like the CC Pocket because I can turn off the display and change the AM bandwidth. Also the push button memories are convenient. I also have the DT-400W and DT-200, but the CC Pockets are used over the Sangean Radios. Note that the buttons may eventually wear out on the CC Pocket radios.

The CC Pocket is the best in this category imo. Doent need an antenna to receive am/fm. Problem to me is the current new version of this radio has a terrible volume control. It uses an infinite encoder and has significant slop in it, and it is not possible to obtain and hold fine radio volume conrol. The prior version had the gradual resistant dial type, that had a stop on both ends and worked quite well. I love my CC Pocket and dropped it on tile floor and cracked open the liquid crystal display. Immediately ordered a new one and was so disappointed in the volume control I sent it back.

The Sangean DT-200X is a decent replacement, but an antenna is needed most of the time. Ergonomically it feels "slippery" as it does not have rubber coated edges like the CC Pocket. Its a good receiver, the controls are decent, volume control is excellent.
