So the other day I was transferring a pt from Carle to an ECF. I had the opportunity to talk with one of the Arrow ambulance crew. He was wearing a P25 radio. I asked him about it. He said they are in a transition from UHF to the new system. He was less than enthusiastic about the radio and system overall.

This may not be breaking news here but I thought I would report it nonetheless.

Just turned the scanner on so unknown how long this has been going on. Reminds me of when they'd split the 453.900/453.150 patch to make two separate channels.

Tonight County is on Patrol 4 and UIPD and Urbana are on Patrol 2. Is this usual for weekend nights to be splitting up the Patrol 2 users?

A lot of activity on the encrypted channels 21529-21531 during the hostage situation this morning. News-Gazette said the SWAT and bomb robot teams were called in.

IREACH patch

A couple times recently METCAD has patched IREACH to the Fireground talkgroup that the fire units on scene are using so that AirLife can communicate with them. Tonight they had FIREGROUND 5 patched to 155.055 until the situation was over.

This is marathon weekend here in Champaign/Urbana.

Friday evening is the 5k.

Saturday morning all the other races start. 10k half marathon and full marathon. Maybe more, just check out the website.

This event brings a huge amount of people into the area and is spread out across both cities. Should be lots to listen to.

Surprised to see tonight 853.525 is the control channel. This is the first time I've seen anything other than 853.825 as the control channel since they moved from 868.825.

TG 22021 was seen used on Friday. The radio ids were in PRO's sequence.

There is some form of training exercise happening tomorrow in Rantoul. The hospital where I work put out some information that we were to expect mock patients and to look out for unattended news people that might be there to cover the event.

The ILLINOIS MARATHON is this coming weekend in Champaign/Urbana. I am sure with the recent incident in Boston we will see increased security.

As for the pictures, well I got busy and never made it up to Rantoul. Sorry.

Simplex 4

CornBelt FPD was at a fire and using "simplex 4" for their fireground. I have not heard this mentioned since departments were first receiving their trunked radios when the switch from VHF was occurring. I'm assuming this is a 700/800 MHz freq.

It looks like the Rantoul consolidation has begun. RPD units are being dispatched today by METCAD. It looks like they are using Patrol 3 with CCSO and Rural PD units, not sure if UI Security units moved to Patrol 4 or 5. Of course this could change as they settle into things.

Switch that, as the database shows County/ Rantoul/ Rural is Patrol 2.
