Here you go...
I'm surprised no one answered my post for the Charleston area. It's just hard to believe that there are no Public Service comms on VHF or UHF either Conv or 800 simulcast. Last Call.
Hi Larry,
I'm surprised too. I don't consider myself to be much of an expert on the subject, as I'm more of a casual listener than most of the guys who hang out here, but I can tell you that there is still a lot of public service traffic on non-P25 systems in the greater Charleston area. My HP-1 still gets a lot of hits on both lo and hi VHF conventional frequencies. It's true that most of the public service agencies in Charleston and Beaufort counties have switched, or are in the process of switching, to P25. Berkeley and Dorchester counties are still on the Palmetto 800 system (analog) and Colleton county is still using their ~460 MHz system (analog). The city of Goose Creek in Berkeley county still uses their ~150 Mhz VHF analog system, even though it's also being simulcast on the Palmetto 800 system. Most of the rural fire departments are still using both lo and hi VHF (analog) for tones and dispatching, although they're also being simulcast on the Palmetto 800 as well. As far as I know, Highway Patrol is still using the Palmetto 800 system (analog) in this area (that also includes Orangeburg county). I don't recall hearing SCHP comms on the P25 systems yet. I'll try to pay a little more attention over the next few days to verify that's still the case...
I know it's not much, but it's better than nothing! Regards from your neighbor to the South...
