Checking to see if anyone has info on the CHEROKEE TRIBAL FDs system. I have what is available in the DB programed but never here anything. Same goes for most of swain... ik swain EMS is on viper and do here that. Would like to listen to Cherokee though.

I haven't. I will put those in and see what I get. I have assumed they where on the NXDN system

if on NXDN, they are conventional still. Last time I was there, they were talking on their frequencies. (12-2021)

They should still be on NXDN or analog conventional as Evans' mentioned. Depending on what part of Haywood you're in, you may just be out of range with the mountain blocking you. We could catch it over in Sylva before but it wasn't always clear even that close. They do not use VIPER that much at all.

Oh. So they switch between analog and NXDN? That I only have the digital programed I will try that!

??? I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. Please proof read your previous post. It is my understanding from my contact that you cannot hear Tribal Fire or EMS as they are using NXDN encryption. Not sure about police. The best thing to do is add the Viper TGs as well as the NXDN frequencies into your scanner (assuming your scanner is capable of receiving NXDN) to see if anything is monitorable and report back.

I'm not exactly following and it sounds like whoever you talked with doesn't quite understand scanners either. The original post was discussing Cherokee Tribal Fire and EMS. They run on NXDN. Certain scanners will pick up NXDN as long as the transmissions aren't encrypted. According to my contact (who is a very reliable source and works in public safety), Tribal Fire and EMS aren't monitorable with a scanner because they have encrypted NXDN. Swain County EMS is a separate agency. They utilize VIPER 100% of the time and can be heard if you have a scanner that will decode P25. The Swain EMS TG is listed in the NC VIPER database.

Can you confirm that the Murphy site is actually operational? I could not get Joanna Bald nor the Murphy site to work when I was down there last. The only site I had success with was Rocky Top. Thanks!

Interesting, I noticed EMS crews here carrying yellow Kenwoods with VHF antennas. That doesn't seem to coincide with what's in the DB.
