It was posted here that this was only a test which happened to last 7 days. There where other reasons why they had to go to digital for a few days. Over all the test went very well I hear. Stay tuned more to come soon...

"Final" Codeplug Modification

Memo came out last week that all ambulance (mobile and portable radios) will be modified with the "final" codeplug, which has been going on all this week. TX-32 is coming up on the air and testing the radios after the programming is completed. The analog channels are being programmed for narrowband, including the telemetry channels. This week, Eng. 63's quarters is being used (Probably all southside ambulances this week), then will probably find a northside firehouse for other ambulances. This new "codeplug" will switch the Admin Channel (UHF) and EMS Command(UHF) as I described in previous post.
The new UHF Digital Fire radios (XTS 5000's and APX 7000's) already have this new codeplug programmed. EMS Field Chiefs and Exempt Rank personnel will also receive the new APX 7000's. The 2 Zones we will be using are identical, with Channels 15 & 16 will be Fire Main and Englewood on the EMS Zone. Other Zones have a multitude of channels that most likely will be used for Interops (Zone IOP) as well as Special Event Zone. Chiefs and Exempt Ranks radios do have encryption capabilities programmed.

The Field officers and exempt APX's are they dualband UHF2/VHF or UHF2/800? I would guess they are VHF for MABAS?

Mobie radio was reprogrammed early this morning, portables at a later time was told. Were given a piece of paper with instructions not to use mobile radio for tactical channel use, until migration date of Nov. 18th (Hey, another Sunday as I predicted!) That means fire will be on digital at 0800 hrs on Nov. 18th...

Man is it sad to see the good old VHF system go, analog sounds so much better.

Most would disagree with you. The fire company officers I spoke to had nothing but good things to say about the weeklong "test period". The clarity was frequently mentioned. The portable radios are a bit of a pain, but once the apparatus radio upgrade occurs, it won't matter.
