If you are seriously considering purchasing the BCD536HP, I would upgrade to the flagship SDS200 scanner with the price difference right now between the two models being less than $100. Right now for the BCD536HP Amazon is charging $500.24 (plus applicable sales tax for your location) and Scanner Master is charging $519.95 (plus approximately $20 for UPS ground shipping).

You can purchase a brand-new SDS200 on sale right now from Main Trading Company for $594.99. You simply add the SDS200 to your shopping cart and the price changes from the regular price of $699.99 to the sale price of $594.99 and that price includes FREE shipping and no sales tax is charged unless you are shipping to Texas. You will not find that $594.99 fully-delivered price for the SDS200 anywhere else right now so if you seriously would like one I would purchase immediately before the great deal disappears.

FYI the SDS200 uses the same exact Sentinel programming software as the BCD536HP and the SDS200 also can scan by using zip codes like the BCD536HP. Lastly if you listen to any radio systems that have (or develop in the future) simulcast issues, you will be all set with the SDS200. FWIW

I want the 536hp I don't want to spend $100 more I am not a bank, if I wanted the flagship I would buy it in September or December, lol otherwise I will be buying the 536hp, not that I wouldn't want the flagship model it's just I don't bring in a lot of money, so I am going to be happy with the 536. :D

I plead guilty to telling you to do that. Glad to hear you got it working.

So now I just work on saving the scanner county lists I want to have on it and then install it when it comes in, I will learn to save the lists, :D I also just in case I want to learn the free scan I downloaded it as well, I want to thank you, I thought I had to pay someone to program it for me, programming scanners must be their bread and butter for those companies, lol

I want Skagit, San Juan, Whatcom, and any other county I can get with either a basic antenna or a small booster antenna I can put on my window cell.

any tips for free scan i will be going over it later tonight once installed.
There is a User Guide in the Wiki for FreeSCAN:
FreeScan User Guide - The RadioReference Wiki

I would note that, if you were purchasing a 996P2 or other DMA scanner, FreeSCAN can program them (with the exception of DMR or NXDN systems). While the ability to use FreeSCAN for programming might be useful, especially if you later acquire a 996P2 or other other DMA scanner, it would not help at all in setting up Favorites lists for one of the database scanners (x36HP & SDS series).

For the 536HP, which is what you indicated above that you intended to purchase, Sentinel is required for database and any firmware updates that might be released. Sentinel is a free program from Uniden, and can handle your programming. There is an 'online manual' that you can access to familiarize yourself with the software.

Should you decide that you want a more capable software program when you get acquainted with a 536HP, consider ProScan or ARC-536. Since you are a Premium Subscriber, you can use either of these programs to import specific systems and channels into a Favorites list. Note that, in addition to the x36HP scanners, and the SDS series, ProScan can also be used to program a wide variety of other scanners, including the 996P2. See ProScan's website for the full list of supported scanners.

One note on the 536. You can input your zip code, select 5 mile radius and start scanning. Go through your services to select what you want to listen to (ie police, fire, etc. ). Good way to jump right in right away and test out your scanner and get your antenna setup correctly. It will slow scanning down a bit because it will scan everything in the 5 mile radius that you selected in your services. Favorites will scan only what you program. Good luck.

I understand completely that you are very closely watching your budget to purchase your brand-new scanner. Here are some current pricing options for the BCD536HP being shipped to you in Washington State and taking into account any applicable shipping charges and Washington State 6.25% sales tax charged to your order:

Bearcat Warehouse $524.00 ($499.00 plus approximately $25.00 for "Economy" shipping which varies depending on your exact zip code and no sales tax is charged to WA)

Amazon.com $531.50 ($500.24 with FREE shipping plus $31.26 Washington State 6.25% sales tax is charged)

Scanner Master $544.95 ($519.95 plus approximately $25.00 for UPS Ground shipping which varies depending on your exact zip code and no sales tax is charged to WA)

The 536 have all the features of SDS200 but if you have simulcast systems then you probably have to go the SDS200. There's no reason why not to buy a second hand one, they don't wear out after a certain hours of use. If you have DMR and NXDN systems that you want to monitor then prepare to spend another $100 but as second hand scanner they sometimes have those systems installed.

With minor exceptions. The SDS100/200 scanners have a color screen and you can customize the screen setup to your liking. They also can use Site NAC where the BCDx36HP scanners cannot. Also, the BCDx36HP scanners do not display the department/site quick key status.

bearcat warehouse and scanner master don't charge sales tax, and I don't plan to buy from amazon as I said I don't pay for any sales tax unless I have to, I would have added zip scanner to the list but I heard some mixed stories on it. I have no clue about the simulcast systems, currently, my pro 97 still works and I enjoy it very much on analog, I'm already going out of my budget for digital because I was told to get one over an analog due to the county can change over at any given time, my original goal was the 15x and an at 125 or 75x, lol

as for my pro 97, once I realized it worked in this county as I had it put away because of my old county went digital, I wanted to see if worked in this county and it did, I can tell you I missed it so much, I can be glued to it for hours, lol

and when I do need something from amazon, I usually do pay the sales tax, I just don't think everything should be charged with ta, however, this is my present, I did buy rechargeable batteries and a charger for my 97 pro, should be here any day now, living on an island the mail service or delivery system is slow, lol

I wonder if anyone knows if ups or fed ex has a radio we can listen to them for our deliveries? lol

so let me just browse the SDS 100/200 and I will get back to you after I had my morning coffee, :D Oh and didn't the 325,996, 436, and 536 have screens you can change the colors? if it's the case why worry?

and since I have been working also on building before Christmas a Uniden base station CB for my home as well, anyone try the scanner/ cb combo? just curious how it works or if it works well?

The BCD436HP and BCD536HP are strictly black text on a white background. They do not have color capability. You can change the color of the background on the BCD996P2. With the SDS100 and SDS200 scanners, you can set both the text and background colors.

They also can use Site NAC where the BCDx36HP scanners cannot.
I would say that the reason for having additional NAC settings in SDS scanners are that they need to have it. It is in the same line as filters, SDS needs to have those 5 different filter settings to combat interference issues and the NAC are also there for the same reason. But it is features not needed in other scanners.

But the detailed color display are a major plus, if you tend to stare a lot on the scanner.

i order my 536 in 2 days :D

So SDS scanners need an additional setting like the Site NAC that is functionaly optional, and yet you think they need to have it? That makes zero sense to me. Have you ever considered the Site NAC option is there as a feature for Uniden's flagship scanners?

Keep in mind that if you buy the 996XT or the BCT15X, you have to buy a programming cable from Uniden [$39.99 + shipping] or Scannermaster and SM is of them. If you have an old computer with a RS serial port, you save not having to buy the RS232 to USB cable. You may want to pay for software to program it.

If you buy the 536 for a bit more cash, you get a scanner with almost everything a listener needs and that can be programmed with a zip code.

Well for reference I did check on both the 15x needs a cable, seems from zip scanners, bearcat warehouse, and scanner master the cable for the 996 comes with it. from what i just looked at, but I'm decided n the 536
