The Ford website says that the rear door hinges on the Interceptor open wider to facilitate putting prisoners into the vehicle.

Exactly, One of the things that we found out during out story, is that the CHP is unsure what they're going to be able to do with the vehicles once they reach the end of their service life. A: There are a lot of things like the door hinges that aren't "stock" on civilian Explorers, and B: Most CHP Crown Vics are sold on the secondary market to become taxi cabs. Figure they have a couple years to figure it out.

I saw three of these in Texas last week. Seems other HPs/SPs are getting in on it.

While CHP bought theirs a long time ago, and a few entered service awhile back, Nevada got a batch on the road before CHP did. BUT, the CHP offered to outfit the first few NHP PIUV's, to see how and where to put all the gear in. (One of the chippies we talked to for the story joked "So we could screw up theirs figuring out how all this stuff goes on. BTW, wasn't any of the officers *in* the story)

Last division that had one was Costal (Santa Barbara). It was retired due to age. They recycled the Code3 LEDx bar onto a Crown Vic. Looked funny.

We have two of the new model Explorers at work, not exactly the police version, but we probably carry more gear in ours than they ever will. They drive big, but great power. I had the opportunity to sit in one of Hermosa Beach's new PI's and it's definitely smaller than a CV. (I was in the front, not the back...) Not a lot of elbow room with the MDT in there and seemed like the dashboard when on for days.

Was just in Arizona a couple weeks ago, and DPS has seemed to have gone with the Chevy Tahoe as the follow on to the CV, as it was *ALL* I saw on the 10 between Phoenix and Tuscon and back. Saw 1 new PI in AZDPS markings.

Hi code 20, do you have any cockpit photos ? MDT pic ? Console pic? Thank you in advance

Redlands version. I'm told it's a Chevy.
