Real question is how long this system will last. Several users (like officers) aren’t happy with the system. Can’t scan on capacity plus.

Oh really? So what channel their two way radio is on, its stuck there huh? I wonder if they will be having scanners installed too, that way they can keep up with the area including the States APCO25. This might help things stay with no encryption :)

Most LE’s already have a MOSWIN radio in their vehicle. As far as scanners. I doubt that. That’s likely an extra expense they’re not going to do.
As far as encryption. Saying Broadcastify is the reason isn’t correct. The real reason is slick vendors who know how to sell the encryption. In fact, several agencies welcome the feeds and several feeds (not locally) are ran by the department.

And not being able to scan on a system such as this is a major set back. That was also the first thing I noticed when I set up my Motorola to monitor it.

I was somewhat surprised they went with Cap+ system when Springfield went P25 route. I know the Police chief in Nixa went before the city council and ask for a communications upgrade to P25. Last I heard (1 yr ago) the county was going to try and get fed money under COVID relief fund, so not sure where that request ended. There have been other states that were successful in getting some COVID relief finding for a communications upgrade. The MOSWIN infrastructure is there, just need money for the equipment.

There is definitely a need....I was listening to a Christian county deputy persue a vehicle about 6 months ago south on highway 65. The deputy got far south enough the dispatcher had to ask the deputy to use a cell phone so that they could remain in contact, pretty sad I would say! Personally, I would support putting the issue of floating a bond for a necessary P25 communications upgrade on the ballot. I would think the majority of Christian county voters would support it.

Coming from a first responder experience, all of the communication resources would be extremely beneficial.....

Look at it this way. They already had the DMR radios. Capacity plus is free on the Motorola DMR radios. So cost isn’t that much when they already have equipment.

’m new at this scanner game so be gentle. I was given a Uniden HomePatrol-II for Christmas. It can be returned or exchanged. Is or will it be capable of receiving the police and fire channels in Christian county with this new system? Sure not hearing anything now. If this scanner is not capable what scanner would you all recommend?

My answer to this question is based solely upon the product description on Uniden’s website. I see no mention of it being capable of DMR. Therefore, it will not do any form of DMR (conventional or trunking). Good scanners to look at include: Uniden 325P2, 996P2, 436HP, 536HP, or the SDS series scanner (SDS100 and SDS200).

all of these scanners are capable of doing DMR but the DMR key is a separate purchase from the scanner.

Also is anyone hearing anything out of Billings Fire. It seems like I’m hearing about every place else on the new system, but nothing from Billings. While it’s a small town it has a pretty large fire district. I have not heard anything for three days which is unusual.

When I’m on the area I hear billing Fire no issue. It all depends on if you’re picking up the clever site. It’s my understanding Billings Fire is only heard on the clever site and a one frequency cap + site in Billings that I’m working to get full info on before submitting.

frequency is 154.4225License: WQPL514

Talk groups I have found so far

1: appears to be county wide fire

7: not sure. Don’t recall what traffic I heard on this talk group

47: sheriff (not sure if this is the only sheriff channel or if there’s multiple. Only heard Christian sheriff and
Sparta PD on this talk group

55: Nixa Police

58: possibly for Billings fire. I heard traffic about a specific Billings apparatus being back in quarters

60: Ozark Police

Nixa and Ozark will need to be double checked. I forgot to notate on my phone so I may have reversed those.
I believe 58 is Billings Public Works, specifically the Billings Special Road District.

I have had the ability to receive the new system for about 4 days and have not heard anything from Billings Fire during that time. I am picking up the Clever site with no problem. I just live a block from the fire station and have seen no activity, so it is possible they have not had any calls but unlikely. Thanks for your help. I’m a 47 year ham (NØNV) but new to these new scanner technologies.

There have been several times I’ve heard Billings go on calls and pretty much never use the Billings fire channel. Same with the other fire departments. It’s rare that I’ve heard them use the OPS channels. Best bet for listeners is to just listen to fire dispatch. And depending on the scanner some may miss quite a bit of traffic. Those on whistler will be the ones that may miss quite a bit of traffic as those scanners don’t do trunk tracking on DMR.

I’ve got a BCD436HP. I’m now listening to to fire dispatch only on the new system, I’m receiving the Clever, Nixa, and Ozark sites well and am hearing Clever, Nixa, Ozark, and other fire departments all being dispatched without any problem. I’ll listen more for the next few days. Thanks for your help.
