ok folks..... I have tried putting this in Sentinel and loading onto my 536 and scanning the favorite but all I get is a screen saying "SCAN MODE, NOTHING TO SCAN" and I have gone into profile and made sure it was downloaded and turned on to scan. The talkgroups ARE CORRECT...... this is the only info we have at this time.
I wasn't able to attach the .hpe file so I put a .pdf extension on it..... if you replace the .pdf extension with .hpe hopefully it'll work....

Thank in advance for any help!!!
Frank M
Frank, do you have location control on? If so, turn it off. Also, turn ID Search on.

Your file appears to be set up correctly. Since you're getting a 'nothing to scan' warning, it's not being scanned. Make sure that the scanner is set to scan the list that contains the system (Menu->Set Scan Selection->Select lists to Monitor. It should say "On" by the Favorites list your Amarillo system is in. I presume that you have the Service types enabled, right?

If location is location control is enabled, your system would be considered as "out of range" and not scanned.

Not sure if I can describe how to do this any better than anyone else has in here, but, I'll try.

Don't worry about trying to get your Pro-197 to work - it won't decode P25 Phase II

For your 436 and 536, you should be able to do the same as I did on my SDS100

Create a new favorites list (just named mine "Amarillo P25")

Right click on the new favorite list and set "Monitor favorite list" to "On"

Right click on the new favorite list, and choose "Program Favorites List"

Under the Options tab, make sure the correct correct "Config Key" is checked (mine is 0), and set a FL Quick Key (mine is 48 for no particular reason)

Click on the Systems tab, and create a new system, name it (mine was just named "Amarillo"), and set the System Type to "P25 Trunk"

Select the "Amarillo" system on the left column, go to the Options tab, set ID Search to "yes", and set a quick key number (mine is set to 0).

*NOTE* - I specifically didn't create a department under the system, just to see if it would work, and it does.

Select the Sites tab, and create a new site (named mine "Simulcast" for no real particular reason)

Select your new site from the left column, and add the 12 frequencies. Might check to make sure that P25 NAC is set to "NAC search" under the Options tab.

Before you close the editor, make sure that under "System Quick Key Status" under your favorite list on the left column, that your system is checked that corresponds to the system you created (Amarillo in my case, and it's 00)

Close the editor, and save the changes to the scanner.

Enable your favorite list you just created, and it should start search for IDs, and you'll start hearing traffic.

This was my down and dirty step-by-step on how I setup my Amarillo P25 favorites list to search IDs, and I did this step by step by my own directions, and it works fine.

The list Frank attached appears to be correct, as long as location control is not turned on. It was set as ID Scan. For a new, undocumented, system, I always use ID Search, as you set on yours. Your manual steps to create your system would work.

The Config key is for startup use. As long as you are not pressing a specific number key when booting the scanner up, it has no effect on operation. The OP indicates that he has a 436HP & 536HP. If target model is set in Sentinel to x36HP, then NAC setting will not appear, and has no effect if entered for the SDS100 model. But, not all the sites for systems in the database have a listed NAC, and some I've checked appear to be incorrect. So setting it to Search, in case an SDS100 is programmed using the file at some point is still a good point to remember.

The Amarillo system is listed as Phase I in the database. If you are seeing Phase II traffic (PT0 & PT1 on the display instead of simply P25), then the database needs to be corrected. That's not going to matter for the x36HP or SDS100 scanners, since a Phase I & Phase II system is programmed the same way. That would also apply to the 325P2 & 996P2, plus the HP-1.

Not sure if I can describe how to do this any better than anyone else has in here, but, I'll try.

Nothing to scan means you must have missed telling the radio how to perform and what to listen to during your scanning efforts. I suggest you read some more about how to operate your Profiles, turning "off or on" "monitor" & download." You might also need to check the service types.

Yeah - I'm in the same boat. If someone local has this system running and can send us the file - I'd be a hero in my own mind.

If you are using a 436/536 HP, load the "system frequencies" by hand into one of the software programs since the RR DB does not seem to have it up yet. These are the ones listed in green.

I would use Sentinel and build a new system. I can build such and send it to you.

You need to realize one thing. When I program this, if my offer has been put on the table, I am going to set it up to run through Favorites (scan lists, banks) while ignoring those dreadful configuration keys. I think these are absolutely worthless. When you program a system in Sentinel, you can activate ID search to find new talk groups. I suggest writing all down in a log and documenting what you heard specific to whether you are listening to Fire Dispatch, Fire Tactical, or Fire Talk, for instance. Most of the time, when using ID search, you are likely going to hear the dog catcher, trash crews, etc. So, the lock-out function might get used in this process. This can be a tedious undertaking.

At present, I have around 64 Favorites across the country. They are listed as 0 to 64.

If you want me to set this up, send me a RR PM with an email address. Then, I will forward the favorite for you to load and monitor. I will help you with the profile once you have this loaded.

I won't program anyone's radio associated with KVII since it is part of the Sinclair group.

Bingo. I've already set up the system using Phase I P25. It is best to use Pro96.com or a similar setup to find active frequencies, talk groups, radio parameters, but this will get you started.

I appreciate all the input gang!!! I knew I could come here for good advice. I'll check everything when I get home from work and make sure the settings are correct. As of about midnight last night it still wasn't working. I'll report back this evening.
Thanks again

So I got it to work (partially) and monitored a few medical patches to the local hospital - but the audio was real low. The TalkGroup was 001. No other traffic was heard all day. I'll experiment with the settings tonight. Amarillo PD has been on this noisy analog system for as long as I can remember, and although I've been a scanning hobbyist the majority of my life - I've never had to program a trunking scanner manually until now. It's a lot for this old brain to take in.

To the person who wouldn't help me because I work for that evil Sinclair corporation. It wasn't evil when I got here and hopefully it won't be evil when I leave. Personally, that's a dumb reason not to help someone - because of who they happen to work for. I'm a scanning hobbyist like everyone else - been doing it for 40 plus years and I just happen to work as a photographer at a local TV station - coincidentally it's in news - which is my passion - to document the human condition. The politics of Sinclair corporate is way above my pay grade and not of my concern. If I decided whether to help or not help a person (in any situation) based on the politics of their employer - well - that's just plain dumb.

Thanks to everyone who has helped and if you ever get to Amarillo - drop me a line! We'll talk scanners and things!

You have 'Download & Monitor' set in your profile, right? But was your list set to download/monitor when you last wrote to the scanner, to update it's database.

The *.hpe file you posted earlier looks to be correct, with the suggestion that you also flip it to ID Search instead of ID Scan. If it was set to be scanned (on the scanner itself, not just in your Sentinel Profile), as long as location was not turned on in the scanner (not just in your profile), you should not be getting 'nothing to scan'. Now, whether you would actually hear anything is another matter, but the scanner should have at least scanned.

On the scanner, not your in Sentinel:
Press Menu
Select Set Scan Selection and press E (yes/enter)
On the next screen, scroll down and highlight Select Lists to Monitor, press E to select
At your list of Favorites, verify that the list that contains your Amarillo system shows ON. If it shows OFF, with the list highlighted, press E to toggle it to on
Press Menu again until you get back out to the main Menu screen
At the Menu screen, scroll down and select Manage Favorites by pressing E
At the Select Favorites list screen, scroll down and select your Favorites list that contains Amarillo
Press E to open it
At the next screen, scroll down & select Use Location Control
Verify that Off is highlighted on the next page. If On is highlighted, highlight Off & press E to select.

Press Menu a few times, until you get back out to the main Menu screen
At the Menu screen, scroll down to Select Service Types and press E
Review the various types, and verify that Law Talk, Fire Talk, and EMS Talk show to be On. If one or more of them are Off, highlight them & press E to toggle to On

By default, the only Service Types enabled in Sentinel (when first installed) are Dispatch for Law, Fire, EMS, & Multi. Make sure that the related Talk and Tac types for those categories are also enabled.

Attached is a modified file. It has your Amarillo P25 system, flipped to ID Search instead of ID Scan. I also added conventional frequencies for Randall & Potter Counties, plus Tx DPS. I appended ".txt' to the file due to forum file requirements. Save to your PC, and remove the txt extension, leaving it as Amarillo 2.hpe. Import into Sentinel, then try downloading it to the scanner, to see if you still get 'nothing to scan'.

Send an email. I will forward the "empty" shell of the P25 with ID search. You need to start keeping a log of the various talk groups that surface.

If, Amarillo has started using encrypted frequencies, you won't hear them on a 436/536HP. The only way to know is submitting a FOIA or run an analysis on the system using something like Pro96.com.

The checks in the mail. I have sent three screen shots and made Favorites 00-06 for you or anyone who wants it. I am using a 436HP. As expected, Pantex was "DE."

Check your email that you sent me.

From what I have observed talkgroups 20100-20199 are law enforcement, 20200-20299 are fire and 20300-20399 are ems.
