Reading through the comments I also noticed they mention FD will be encrypted next year

I was kind of surprised that they were in the clear as long as they were !
Now a days, enjoy the listening while you can because it may not be there tomorrow ! That's just the way it is , unfortunately 😞

Not sure why FD though. I could see doing it for their hospital channel/TG so they don't make the patient's info to the ER public.
When Arlington PD first encrypted, there were comments that Fire would also be secure. The reason was that the
'citizen monitors' that showed up on scenes to take videos would not be able to monitor the PD, but could still find incidents because often he FD was also dispatched along with police. Arlington Fire TGIDs still show as not encoded in the database. They are out of range for me from home. but when I go through Arlington en-route to somewhere else, I very rarely hear APD, even when they are working an accident along I-20 when I pass through there.

APD is encrypted, AFD is not. They are Phase II and FD does have some encrypted talkgroups. I think they are used by the EOD and Arson guys at the large Event Venues.

As for Lewisville or any other agency contemplating Full Encryption, I personally believe it was a factor in the poor Interop Comms. at the Trump Rally and attempt assassination. I posted a lengthy comment on the Lewisville page, if you want to know my view.

Mentioning Arlington just jogged my memory that back in February, City of Lewisville hired the previous APD chief Brook Rollins who is now the current LPD chief. I'm sure that may have a large factor in the total encryption.

Lewisville PD has started their transition to full encryption yesterday. My scanners no longer hear traffic on their channels.

That confirms why my scanner was so quiet on a Friday night last night trying to listen to Lewisville PD. I heard on here that it was about to happen. At least for now the Lewisville Fire Department is still in the clear. Dang it, I shouldn't have said that, now they're going to be next:cry:

They already plan to sometime next year to transition FD. But since we are now talking about it, it's jinxed and timeline pushed up.

Yeah I heard that too but didn't want to believe it. Definitely a huge bummer! I kinda get it for the PD (not really, another subject for another day) but FD? Come on, throw us a bone here.
