heard today a command officer had a new portable for the new system, all he would say was ""SOON""
Now if its true that new 700 mhz is being added to SW ohio including OSP Dayton Springfield, would this mean Id need to program in all those 700 MHZ channels and on a Bearcat 996 but the what would I need to do to listen and track Talkgroups?? Please give a detailed description so my older brain will understand, Thanks!!

They are doing full testing today. They are checking for dead spots and that kind of thing. The new system sounds great and should be fully functional in the next few days.

Is this part of the MARCS IP system which is also used in Cuyahoga, Franklin, and most recently Fayette County?

I was in Washington Court House last week and heard the SO on it. It was real clear with good decode and better than the old MARCS.

Yes, this is the new MARCS-IP System in Clark County. They are broadcasting on towers in Springfield, Urbana, Dayton, and London. A new tower is to be added in Greene County in the spring.

I'll ask this again in this current thread, since asking in the another MARCS thread got no answers.

Can anyone tell me if the IP based system is intended to replace the current MARCS system (as in an upgrade of equipment as time goes by) or is it intended to remain a seperate system? I wondered if it was being deployed now to enhance some areas with better coverage, and then eventually cut into the other system as it upgrades.

Second, can a user on the IP system also use the other system if he moves out of his home area (USER on Fayette IP are travels to Athens....can his radio fall back to standard MARCS operation) ?

The MARCS IP system will gradually replace the present MARCS system over the next several years. The old system will eventually be deprecated. A user on the IP system cannot transfer to the old system if they move to another area. Their radios are set up only to be used on the MARCS IP system.

Total replacement. The old system will eventually cease to exist and the frequencies will be migrated over to the new system.

Only if the user 1) has a talkgroup on the existing system (most do) and 2) switches manually. It is not automatic.

Monitorable??

will this new system be able to be monitored with Bearcat 996 XT, and what do I need to do to be able to listen? Will the old High band be tossed or any plans to use as backup and is Champaign county gonna switch over too since towers are going up there.
Is Post 12 and 57 going this route also?
Thanks

At this point London and Urbana are not yet on line. They may be online soon, though.

I don't know about London as I cannot receive them here, but Urbana is online using a control channel of 774.80625. Urbana went online the same time as Dayton and Springfield. Here are the three site numbers and their respective control channels:

Springfield - 348-0107 - 774.70625
Dayton - 348-0105 - 774.83125
Urbana - 348-0108 - 774.80625

I have been listening to all three sites for several days now.

Here are the associated talkgroups that I have heard traffic on so far:

10500 - TAC 1
10519 - possibly going to be dispatch
10514 - encrypted
10506 - encrypted
10509 - encrypted
10501 - unknown
10503 - encrypted

Yesterday afternoon they did dispatcher training. They also did a lot of checking for dead spots in the morning, mainly using portables. The system sounds great and should be ready to be put in service in just days. I have logged over 40 radio IDs and there will be many more.

Interesting. I am tracking Dayton, Springfield and Urbana on the frrequenices that kinfolk posted, but the Dayton and the Urbana ones are not on the license that was issued on the 18th for these sites (WQQH916).

Initially all three sites were on control channel frequencies not on the license. The Springfield site was changed to a licensed frequency several days ago. This is interesting for sure.

Per CCSO dispatch, TODAY, at 1500, they are switching over to the MARCS system.

I live halfway between Springfield and Urbana and they sure sound great here also. Sounds like they have several TAC channels that are encrypted.

If I purchase a GRE PSR-500 will it be able to hear their dispatch in Clark County?
