Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. Santa brought this lucky guy SDR #2 and a long antenna so I can continue scanning conventional radio while I'm dialed into CLMRN.

On that note, Troop H is next. (I was just about up to date and then Christmas happened so I would imagine I have some additional work cut out for me) ;)

Moved over from Talkgroup thread:

1583 was 875. He was involved in a DA yesterday. (Department Accident) He was not injured but they towed the car back to HQ.
2020 is 209 Sgt
2058 is 1133 K9
2100 is 1330 G
4303 is 1163-P

Of course things are constantly changing as you know.

Doc

Thanks Doc, will update the list accordingly.

Troop H Updated.
28 new radios added, 16 alpha tags identified (390 still unknown)

Will probably do another small Troop H update this week after I get the chance to review some more audio.

Any chance you use discord? I have probably a good 2 months worth of troop h audio. I can rar it and send over a link on a website or split the file so it sends and you can extract it - files are from dsd fastlane

That sounds great! I use DSD+ FL as well and have been capturing audio for a little over a month now, but the more audio I have to work with, the more of these alpha tags I'll be able to identify.

I have used discord on a few occasions but don't actively have a channel or account.

How big is the RAR?

Thanks!

I would have to rar it up and see.

Alright, so I have the file it's around 500 mb. 68,880 files or so. Let me see if I can have my buddy upload it for me and I can DM you the file link if it lets him upload it

OK fellas, I'm looking for some help. I'm new to all the P25 stuff, I have a 996p2 and programmed the CLMRN (State Police and any FD's on it) using Freescan about a year ago and all was good. But then recently I hear nothing on it. I tried reprogramming it using Freescan using the RR database with the same results. Whats going on here?

What’s your location(county is fine)?
Only the sds series scanners are good with simulcast distortion that CLMRN has.
I know doc on here is in Middletown area and gets it good but every area is different.

I’m in Fairfield county but I travel to New Haven daily and pretty much across the state regularly. What o don’t get is why it all worked a few months ago but now nothing.

I know CTS(clmrn radio admins) have been making changes a lot lately. I'm not sure if they've done anything in new haven county differently, or if maybe it's your antenna, or just the simulcast getting to you radio now all of a sudden.

A buddy of mine uses an older scanner like yours( the portable version I think ) and he took the antenna from the outside of the car to using a normal ducky antenna(not sure if tuned for 800 or not) and said that the signal has gotten WEAKER in a better way that lets him actually hear a bit more than normal and has less issues with the simulcast since most newer cars block a lot of outside RF

My 996p2 works great.
Nothing has changed that would affect reception of the system if it's programmed properly.

I would double check your programming 😉

Added Hartford Fire Department to the list. Thanks to Firebuff66 for his help.
29 radios added.

On a different note, most of you probably saw the thread I started a few days ago. Unfortunately my ability to continue monitoring CLMRN is not looking good. After a month of setting up shop in Barkhamsted, I went back to my regular listening location, which is 4 miles from the nearest tower, only to find that the signal strength has diminished to the point where I can't even detect a P25 data stream.

Nothing about my setup has changed, yet I am unable to pick anything up. So I guess this is pretty much it :(

I bet you TMobile has launched their 700 MHz "5G" service and it's swamping your receiver. Have you looked at the spectrum with an analyzer? (Easiest way would be with an SDR)

Yes actually, I've been using an SDR all along.

This actually makes sense because the bandwidth on the peak I'm seeing on the spectrum analyzer seems to be much wider.

if you are close enough, drop the gain way down.
Keep in mind that the Bloomfield North site is very close to East Granby, you could try a yagi pointing either way.

Adam you might try Thursday nights watching Litchfield County, they do a weekly tone test Thursday night at seven and a lot of departments use their state radio to answer

Crossposted from Troop H Bradley Tower thread:

As it turns out, a flaky USB connection can sometimes cause a USB 2.0 hub to continue to sort-of function, only as a USB 1.0 device as far as windows is concerned (you may be familiar with the "This device can perform faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port" error when you know damn well it already is).

Unplugged the USB hub and plugged it back in until it was properly recognized as 2.0 again and away I went, fantastic signal strength, waveform on spectrum analyzer looks nice and narrow.

In USB 1.0 mode, my RTL-SDR understandably couldn't keep up and when I finally turned off the squelch I realized the audio was in bursts.

Crisis averted, thanks to all those that chimed in.

Great info, thanks Ty! I've got them all recorded so now that I know I can go back and find them by timestamp.
