If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Thanks Steve,

I think I will just get the integrated rib cable unless there is a cable to go from the RIB to the cm300 instead?? I dont see it on MOL. If you could point that out that would be great.....

I don't use the RIB so if there is a special cable for the RIB to CM200/300, I am not the person to answer that question.

I suspect the FKN8096A adapter might work with the RIB if you get the RIB to CDM cable, too.

The thread already contains all the info needed to set up to properly program the CM's.

CM300

How do I program a Motorola CM300 to send out paging tones to pagers for dispatching our Fire Department? I already know the 2 tone numbers for both tones.

How do I program a Motorola CM300 to send out paging tones to pagers for dispatching our Fire Department? I already know the 2 tone numbers for both tones.
In the CPS: CM300 --> Call --> Quik-Call II --> QCCL1
  1. Set the Revert Personality to be the same as your dispatch channel.
  2. Pick your call format.
  3. Enter your tones.
  4. If you place your cursor over the QCCL1 in the tree, left click then right click, you can rename it if you like. (You can rename your personalities, too. Whatever you enter will appear on the display when you select it.)
CM300 --> Conventional Personalities -> Your channel --> Transmit Signalling System: Pick the Call system you have created.

CM300 --> Buttons: Define a long press button to be Radio Call.

Save your modified code plug and then write to the radio.

To send an alert: Press your newly defined Radio Call button. If you have defined more than one call, use the up/down buttons to select the one you want. Briefly press the PTT button on your mic to send the call. Press again and hold to speak. (Hint: If you drop carrier for too long, folks with SV pagers may not get the voice message at all.)

If you wish to add more than one call, CM300 --> Call --> Quik-Call II. In the tree, place your cursor on Quik-Call-II and left click. You will get a window with a button to add more Calls. You can rename them as described above.

Thanks for the reply. I did all that and then noticed what my problem was. I forgot to go into programmable options to allow the radio to do the radio call.

You will have to answer that for yourself. All are decent radios, especially for ham use. It may boil down to how you want to mount one in your car or which one fits best.

The CM300's and the M1225 are pretty much the same size and shape so that's a toss up.

Programming is an issue. the CPS for the CM's is $265 and so is the the CPS for CDM1250. MOL is the only source. The 1225 software is NLA, but if you have a MOL account, it's there under discontinued products.

The 1225 software can be flaky on Vista or Win 7 computers. Runs fine on XP ones, especially if they have a serial port.

The CDM and the 1225 can be programmed using the same cable, depending on what PC you are using. The CM's use that same cable, but REQUIRE an adapter as well. (Plenty of info on that here in other threads.)

There is lots of info here and on the batboard about programming the Professional Series (CDM1250 and others), the Commercial Series (the CM300's and such), and the M1225. There is enough in various existing threads to answer most any question you might have.

Pinouts of the RJ-45 adapter

A co-worker has the regular Motorola mobile programming cable (CDM1250/1225/Maxtrac etc) but he needs the pinouts of the adapter so he can build his own... is this right??

There seems to be lots of people on here knowledgeable on the CM300. So can someone tell me how to program a channel so it acts like a pager? I'd like it to unmute for a tone out (which I have it doing now, so I know I have the correct tones) but not have to listen to all the other operational "chatter" on the same frequency, just the dispatcher pages themselves. Is this possible?

First select the Receive Only box
Then on Signaling System choose "Quick Call II Sys1"
then for Signaling Squelch "AND"

Go back up to Quick Call II Systems and enter the Call Format and Tone data

program it and then you're set

To add QC-II decode to a channel in the Commercial CPS Signaling —> Quik-Call II System —> Add or create a QCII system
• Call Type: Call Alert w/Voice
• Call LED : check the box
• Alert Tone Auto Reset: Check this box
• Call Format: A/B if your agency uses a single tone pair
• Enter Tone A and Tone B. Skip the code boxes. They will automatically fill in when enter the tones *if* they are standard Motorola tones.
• Auto Reset Timer: Manual
• PTT Sidetone: Long
• PreTime: 500
• Long Tone Duration: 3 sec.

Be sure to define one of the programmable buttons short press to be Monitor. Pressing Monitor after an alert will return the radio to silent alert mode just like the reset button on a pager.

Conventional Personality —> Select or create the personality for QCII.
Squelch Type: CSQ
RX Signaling System – use dropdown to select the desired QCII system. It’s possible to have more than one QC-II system but only one can be assigned to a personality.
For Signaling Squelch choose "And" for the radio to always be silent unless an alert is received matching the QCII setup.
For Signaling Squelch choose "Or" for the radio to monitor all radio traffic and alert when a call is received matching the QCII setup.

NOTE: If you want to use the radio like a pager (silent until alerted), create an additional Rx only personality for your QC-II, use the "AND" squelch. Plan to jump to your regular channel to transmit and/or receive. (Setting up a Home or Revert button is useful here.) Also, don’t include this channel on your scan lists and don’t set it up to scan or auto scan as scan will interfere with the radio hearing and decoding the tones.
