Has anyone ever tried this and what band/freq, I have no idea what it sounds like , doubt if it is used much.

These ham-only modes are usually found in the band segments that are suggested for them - there are several such agreed-upon areas. If you get a chart like the one from ARRL (link below) you will know where they can be legally used - now what they all sound like is quite another matter...
