I just saw the database update with some talkgroups for patrol and CID channels. Also, some TXDOT statewide talkgroups popped up briefly. I wonder if they will continue to patch a channel to the LCRA system. Their interoperability with NBPD has never been the greatest.

Yes sir, they had named the talkgroups during testing and someone was lucky enough to catch a few.

I see Comal County Constable Pct 4 has been added to the DB.

I am still learning to use my SDS 100 & 200. I set up my 100 in Discovery mode for the last 2 weeks or so and collected a lot of "Open Mic" test or "test, test, test" audio. I did capture some of Pct 4 audio that confirmed it was there channel. I also captured some sheriff's office radio call numbers on other channels.

It looks like I need to compare my new channels to the DB and see what if any audio is usable to confirm as a new channel for Comal??? A little Elmer help here would be great for me. I heard Comal was getting 36 channels but I'm not sure what that amounts to in a Trunked system. I've only had to deal with analog my whole life and am trying to learn Trunked systems. For now I will save the data I collected and hope to capture more to help the community out.

I captured "test" audio on 16291_D, 16292_D, 16293_D and 16294_E which appears to be in the DB as State Capital frequency range. If that helps anyone looking in that range.

I’ve been running a Broadcastify Calls node on that one for a few weeks now and have recorded very little activity, but my signal may be less than par. I’ll adjust it some over the holiday and see if I can pick up any more. It complicates the trunk-recorder because the Comal simulcast uses two frequencies in the 153 range and the rest are 161 which is a very wide spectrum for it to cover with one SDR.

I have been out by the Rolling Oaks Mall area and only got two bars on my Unication G5 for the Comal site. Close enough to Bracken and Garden Ridge, where I thought the signal would be stronger. Or, maybe it's the radio or antenna. I thought I saw something while back that Comal would have three to four sites on the system. Some smaller counties than Comal have at least two sites within the county.

It’s a six site simulcast, they may still be bringing on sub sites. Bulverde, Garden Ridge, Fischer, Startzville, NB and FM 306 E.

Looks like the SO is live today. Both patrol channels. SO 1 is still patched to LCRA TG 11013.

They have been on the Gattrs system for a few days. I talked to a Deputy who said they had made the switch but were still working on some things. Fire and EMS are still being dispatched on the old analog for now. I haven’t had time to look at my log the last few days but it shows 11 hits on the GATRRS system.

Seems like dispatch is having some audio issues. Hearing units garbled a lot. Growing pains moving from conventional.

I have the SDS200 on analog and the Sds100 on GATRRS sometimes dispatch comes across on both but patrol replies on GATRRS. With a time delay it’s like listening to an echo.

The old patrol channels 156 and 159. are not analog they are P25 conv. They are patched into the new system. That is why you hear they delay.

👍🏻 I know the inevitable is coming for dispatch traffic as Comal approved back in Nov; but do we have TGs/NAC or CC for the new system yet? I’m open to suggestions on what to replace the current 156 feed with when it goes fully “dark”- sounds like the other channels should be in the clear so CC FD Disp may be the next best option…

Ok nm; I'm watching the updated GATRRS db info; 161cc with a NAC of 0x131- I'll leave that open along with the conv 156 today and see what pops up...

I had heard their dispatch channels would be clear, and the others listed in the database would be encrypted. Fire will probably be the last to switch over. They will probably keep the VHF patched for tone-outs like other agencies on GAATRS. I would think SO 1 will still be patched to the LCRA system for interop with NBPD and DPS. It would make sense, but they may cut that patch. Sometimes agencies don't play well.

Okay, I think I have the attic antenna tuned good for the Calls ingest to start ID'ing groups. I also noticed that there is a presumed TxDOT 700 MHz site now ID'd, 2.56 with 774.80625 as it's control channel listed as a neighbor to Comal VHF.

I haven't listened to Comal regularly in a while. All the unit numbers still seem the same. 3xx-4xx SO units, 1XX Garden Ridge, 7XX Bulverde. The new ones to me are the 500 series, which sound like Constables for schools. And the 1400 units. Any help identifying?

They have hired more Deputies to work the schools and have assigned them 500 numbers.
300 is the Sheriff and worked up to the 500’s.
I believe the Constables are using 1100, 1200, 1300 and 1400 call numbers with the 1,2,3 and4 represents the prescient for each of the 4 constables.
