Just bear in mind that the federal bands that are administered by IRAC have their own form of "rebanding" in progress. It has nothing to do with the Nextel 800 MHz situation, but lots of federal agency radio systems are being changed.

Are these nationwide freqs listed in the database here somewhere? I haven't been able to find a "nationwide" or "common" section. It would make life easier for those of us using the Butel software for programming!

Thanks

no, they are not in the DB anywhere...wouldn't that be nice?

anyway, I'll save you some time :) just unzip and open the files. I used ARC396 Pro to create them. I hope I can import then into ARC996 after my new 996T gets here.

if you see anything that's wrong, let me know. I just put the FBI ones in the other day and yesterday I heard traffic. although it was P25 encrypted.

Hey, thanks Mike!

I just imported them to my 996T using the ARC 996 software, worked fine! I just saved it to the desktop and did a mem file batch import, worked like a charm. Thanks for your efforts!

No problem. you may want to delete the one listed as Mt Weather or just move the listings to the FEMA group. Mt Weather is local to me. do you like your 996T? have you tried doing a CC search in the 380MHz band where you are? :)

anyone know exactly what 163.1 is used for? I know it's listed as a few things on the 1st page. I'm hearing traffic where I am. sounds like they were working on a transmitter on a tower.

I was just going to ask you about the MT weather listing!

One thing to take note of: I believe that when the 996T is in tone search mode, it will not decode P25 stuff. I noticed that you had the tone search on in your file.

I am very happy with my 996T, I have a 246T, so I am a bit familiar with the programming, etc. I do use the Butel software for both, and found it to be a huge help.

I think it will, at least with the 396T. I have a few that I hear traffic on occasionally that they search is set to on. I'll try both ways and see what happens.

edit: I think you're correct. the ones that I normally hear traffic on that's P25, the search was turned off. I turned them all off and am programming the scanner now. thanks. I wonder how much I have missed? :)

Pretty tricky, it's on page 88 of the 996T manual, I learned that one over in the Uniden forum!!

thanks :)

just to let you know, since I have been monitoring the feqs in those 2 files, I've heard P25 here on 163.100 (not sure what it is) and 167.5375 encrypted (listed as FBI).

For what it's worth, found on a quick Google search on 163.100:

Itinerant Frequencies

163.100 and 168.350 are both federal nationwide common frequencies that any federal agency can use. They have also been used in repeater configurations. The land management agencies have started using them more heavily in the past 10 years, and they have replaced local tactical (work) channels in many cases (Several forests previously used the NIRSC tactical channels locally). These two frequencies are available as ground tactical frequencies, and in many cases you will also hear communications between crews as they travel on this frequency.

Keep in mind that any other federal agency may also pop up on these. Many agencies with little communications equipment, rely on these for their operations. (USGS gage tech., etc

Hey Mike should your audio type be set to all or does it have to be analog

for what, the digital? I usually use auto for everything on my 396T.

When it is listed P25 Digital do you just enter the normal frequency. I am confused on the P25 digital part.

if you are using an Uniden, as far as I know yes. are you using software or putting the freq into the scanner by hand? there should be an option either way, that will allow for auto.

I can only speak about the 396T and from what I understand, the 996T is about the same.

what scanner are you using? you may want to post a question on the forum for your scanner manufacture or under the APCO-25 forum.

Yes, you just use the listed frequency, but your scanner has to be capable of decoding the digital signals, not all are.

In the late 90's I heard what sounded like a military base and mil type callsigns on 163.100. It sounded like they were using it as a repeater output (hangtime). It was something out of X files. They were all worked up about a red light at the end of a runway and were sending a scout team out to it. They were talking about viewing it with IR and then the signal was very weak to start with and suddenly it was gone. Short of 9/11 traffic it was the craziest thing I have ever heard on the radio.

I was kind of out of scanning on 9-11. I remember I was sick at home watching it all. it never occurred to me to dig out a scanner. I feel like a moron. Ohh well. I hope I never get a chance like that though.

Shiver me timbers, mate.

What part of the country was this in? Please don't say Kingman, AZ or Mena, AR.

It was in the Kansas City area. It was right around midnight and the skip was good that evening so I don't know how far away it was. They were using callsigns like Tango 4 etc...

As a side note, CBP no longer labels their channels as A1, A2, etc. They are now Net 1, Net 2, etc. for repeater channels and Tac 1, Tac 2, etc. for simplex channels.

Here in San Diego/SoCal they still use them.
I just heard them say switch to Alpha-3. Also heard Alpha-4 and Alpha-8 mentioned. Very busy agency down here as you can imagine.
