I agree I am going to try op25 to see were I can get at this point but I had a ton of gui errors on gru

My point is you're not going to have a GUI, nothing that requires gtk is going to work because that doesn't exist at this point and more than likely never will with how this Ubuntu Linux subsystem is meant to function, at least not based on what the developers have stated so far in the videos and articles I've read about it.

Basically if whatever you're attempting to do needs a window manager for gtk functionality or anything GUI related, forget it - this is purely command line console only functionality so GNURadio, OP25, anything that tries to create or make use of any GUI/gtk aspects is not going to work, period.

I could be proven wrong at some point in the future but, for the time being that's how it is.

iMONITOR:

While I'm not a developer, the merging of so many facets of software development can't be a bad thing overall. There's always a benefit in making use of multiple tools to get multiple tasks done, and since this removes the necessity (in many respects) of having to run VM software that requires you to install/maintain the guest OS(es) then again I can only see this as a positive thing in the long run.

So far from what I've seen the developers that can and will make use of this new functionality have posted almost entirely positive comments about it over at the Channel 9 site and most anywhere else I've done research into this bash on Windows 10 development.

Surely Microsoft will have it worked out by official release

Well, that was fast:

FYI you can run GUI Linux apps from bash on Windows 10

The long and short of it is yes it appears to be possible to run actual Linux GUI apps on the Windows 10 desktop by installing X Server and configuring the specifics with commands per app. Another person even installed Xfce (a desktop environment for Linux).

I can't say for sure it would be relevant with GNURadio or OP25 at this point but it's a starting point even though it's not fast, it's not all that pretty, but perhaps as time passes it will indeed gain performance and efficiency. Obviously not everything is going to work, probably a lot won't but it's there for the experimentation at this point.

It's a very cool thing, regardless, and not something most people would have ever guessed possible. ;)

Any one else thinking about trying to compile gnu radio with Windows 10 bash ?

Just thought of that today. Don't know yet; but give it time. Some enterprising developers sooner or later Will develop a whole load of stuff. I wanna run op25 and really would rather do it under Windows. Eventually, amateur radio operators will hungrily go after these New possibilities.

I don't see it happening until the official Anniversary edition is released. Not everyone is on the insider program.

Gave it a shot. No go. Need to brush up on Linux and wait for development of the Windows infrastructure.
