• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I notice a few days ago on the Connect System site they have a model CS800D Plus not in stock at the moment. It appears to do DMR, FUSION, DMR and NXDN.
Wonder if the 800D will have a firmware update to able to do nxdn & fusion?

These are all quoted from the Connect Systems listing for this radio:

"This and more is the future of digital radios and what the CS800D PLUS will become."

"The firmware will be done in stages over a period of many months. Some of the firmware will be done by the Amateur community."

"Then we start implementing the new features one at a time."

In other words, it's vaporware. The radio does not currently have all the features they mention in the listing.

This idea has been going for at least 3 or 4 years. I have had three radios from them, and they are all decent quality. The 800 is my DMR base and was in my car for a few months to see how the detachable faceplate worked. When I had a problem, the owner actually talked to me and was helpful. I also met him at a pre-covid Dayton hamfest and he seemed to be the kind of person I could trust. On paper, the multi modes may look good, but designing an affordable and workable radio is obviously much more difficult. The CS580 is one of my favorite radios and the first to actually scan DMR decently and add a talkgroup without software using just a couple of keystrokes.

The CS800D website seems to make note of making room for another computer and hams helping with software. Makes me think they are considering shoving in some type of MMDVM module.

Anybody remember the CS7000? It was based on the CS700/750, & was supposed to do all that six years ago. And yet not a single prototype was ever made. The owner is a great guy, but while he may have great ideas, it’s all up to CoValue, the Chinese mfr of the CS700/750/800/800D line of radios. Whenever THEY decide to make the radio, it will come to fruition. Until then, just enjoy what exists. And a happy fourth to everyone.

I am really confused about the P-25 "feature", apparently this radio will only have P-25 Phase II conventional. As I understand it, there is virtually no one operating a P-25 Phase II conventional repeater anywhere, let alone for ham use. AFAIK every P-25 ham repeater is currently Phase I. What am I missing?

I talked to Jerry on the phone about this and other features. I stated I just wanted the P25 conventional part, no need for trunking. Not sure I got an answer but another design is to have the amateur database installed in which it would be connected by gps or something else to load automatically. He stated the amateur community would have to get involved with that part.

Encryption and paging features that were on the previous 800D would be left out to make room for the current design. Maybe someone else can determine what the p25 feature will actually do. He does take phone calls and seems open to ideas.

Oh I did ask about updating current models and he said it's not possible.

Phase I, & Phase 2 are trunking protocols. Neither are used on ham radio conventional repeaters. They are just straight “imbe”.

I have a CS800D and got an email the other day saying:

This application note explains how to use an external computer such as a Raspberry Pi to allow the CS800D PLUS to work with DSTAR, Fusion and other digital protocols.

Press the red button below, then go to the bottom of the page and click on the application note.

If after reading the application note you believe we should add a feature, please email us and inform us of the missing feature. If something is not clear, email us so we can rewrite the application note to make it more clear.

Mr. Hagensieker could you share the application note you were emailed, or provide a link? I'd like to read those instructions.
