Hi Guys/Gals,

So I'm kind of new here, definitely been on RadioReference my fair share lurking in the shadows but I'm stumped now.

So this is my first time trying to configure my scanners myself, usually we (as a company) usually just pay a guy $50.00 to program them.

So I finally messed around a bit with my BCD996P2's and after subscribing to RR I'm interested in learning a few things

My dilemma is this - I've got this program working on my BCD996P2's but it's not working on my BCT15x and I don't know why.

Now I got this working on the BCD just using the RR import on FreeScan but it's not working on the BCT15x, any help would be greatly appreciated.

What, exactly, is "not working" on the BCT15X? Are you unable to import a system, or it imports, but you hear nothing?

So looking at the system, it is Motorola Type II system, which will work on both the BCD996 and the BCT15X.
The Trunk system has a mix of analog and digital talk groups. The analog groups will work on both radios, but only the digital groups will come in on your 996.

Looking at the list you are trying to program, those TG's are all analog. So no issues there.

I am assuming that you did not set the baud rate correct on the scanner. Setup FreeScan to search for the BCT15X. This will hunt all of your comports and baud rates to see if it can talk to the scanner. If your software's baud rate does not match your scanner's, they won't talk.

You should have no issues taking a profile from a BCD996 radio and programming it into a BCT15X. I use Freescan all the time to go from one Uniden DMA model to another. It certainly makes life easier having a piece of software like that.

So the thing is we have BCT15x's that still work so it's definitely a programming issue.

I plug the BCT15x's whip and speaker in - make sure its scanning by ID but it doesn't pick anything up. Though I use the same antenna on my BCD and speaker and it'll talk

Imports onto the scanner, but won't hear anything on the BCT

OK

This is off the wall, and maybe is not the issue, but:

Try using ID Search on the 15X, and see if you hear anything, particularly the talkgroups that work on the 996P2, but not the 15X.

I'm curious if FreeSCAN is actually loading these talkgroups. Have you tried stepping through the system manually, to verify? The reason I say that is one of the download to scanner options in FreeSCAN is "do not send digital channels to analog scanner". In theory, this should not be an issue. But, if FreeSCAN has 'tagged' those TGIDs as digital (even though they are not), is that keeping it from being sent to the BCT15X? I know that should not be the case, but it might be a longshot possibility. Also, I'm wondering if the "digital end code" selection in the trunked system setup is a contributing factor.

Okay so I have verified it is scanning the frequencies, it's on ID Search so it should be picking up any talk group that it can hear on those frequencies - but it's still not picking anything up.

I've turned off the Motorola End Codes and turned off programming digital to analog scanners.

I still don't know what's going on, trying to get a program list from someone elses BCT15x
