If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I have a CP200 UHF I use for my racing exploits. It's worked fine for a long time, but now when I use my headset to broadcast through the radio it puts out a barely audible signal to the receiving radio. If I unplug the headset and use the PTT on the radio the outputted signal is fine.

I've tried two different cables and two different headsets with the same results. Can anybody shed some light on this problem?

Thanks - Doug

The internal jack contacts get dirty. They need to be cleaned. I am against using any spray cleaners, usually makes thing worse.

Pipe cleaners can be helpful to clean the jack contacts. Be VERY careful. Make sure the headset connector pins are clean.

I deal with both the CP200 and with headsets for high noise locations like race tracks. I set up many headsets for track use.

A couple of things that I find when people say they are have this problems is, 1) is the cab FULLY pushed into the jack? 2) where is the mic in relations to your mouth? It needs to be within 1/2 in for best audio to the radio.

I have also found that over time, the jack not only gets a little dirt in it but it is a REAL problem to clean and the contacts get a little loose and do not make full contact with the pin.

The best way to take care of this is to replace the jack in the radio, BUT IT IS NOT A SIMPLE operation.

You need to send it to a dealer to have them either replace the jack or to send in for factory service.

CP 200's are still factory supported and they will do a complete system check to include tune.align and replace the jack for about $200.00.

I also do replacements of these jacks and you can contact me for more information at cabletech03/hotmail.com.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure it's plugged in all the way and close enough to the spotter's mouth. As I said previously, I've tried two different headsets with the same results. I may be contacting you cabletech. Where are you located and what's the turnaround time?

Thanks - Doug
