Starting July 1st, their will be some major changes coming to the CPD Radio Call signs. Detective Division will be revamped, SWAT and WMD will be more organized...to name a few. District level beats will remain the same. Alot of beat number changes coming...haven't seen an overhaul like this in a long time. Anyone remember when the 8000 Series were Detectives?

An Idea

It sounds like it would be a good time to update the CARMA CPD profile when the dust settles!

I was able to get a sneak peek at it...Area Detectives will be given the title of Violent Crimes, Property Crimes, Special Victims Unit (This is in effect...old Youth Section). Currently it's HGS(Homicide-Gang-Sex Crimes) or RBT(Robbery-Burglary-Theft) Beat numbers will still be in the 5000 series, but it's broken down a little more. I suspect when Violent Crimes becomes overwhelmed, they'll be using Property Crimes alot more. Airport Law Enforcement will be in the 7200 Series (O'Hare & Midway Trunking System monitors here the 2900 Series units now). Specialized Units are outlined on the copy i've seen, much less guessing. SWAT and WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) Beats are broken down too. Most SWAT related incidents or the acronym "HBT Incidents" (Hostage-Barricade-Terrorist) Incidents are texted via Blackberry devices they carry. Keeping an ear to the City-Wides will usually give you an indication of one of these incidents (340 E. Randolph yesterday is a good example). The Organized Crime Division (Narcotics, Vice, Gang Units), will be shuffling their beat numbers around. I'm hearing some buzz the Nextels are not well liked. Not sure if this means the current trunking system will be reborn, or the UHF digital system will be brought into service. That's it for now....

Nextel

Gee thats not a surprise :)

It does not suit them on how they use them, they need turn key limited delay and limited drop out.

Ah, I guess I just super opionated when it comes to nextel. And yet I use one evryday and I like to run it over with a truck. Group call with a nextel does not make sense at all and is rather bad idea.

A few years back, I owned a Nextel as alot of us did. They had their place, and still may be used. The city has contracted with Verizon for Blackberrys, the CFD Mobile Reporting Units, cell phones are being converted. If anything, It's up in the air as to what they're going to do. The OCD trunking system has been rarely used, as the OEMC trunking system. Not sure if these will be combined, for city usage (would make sense), or the UHF digital system will go on line for CPD. Only a guess on my part.

I would hope

I would hope that the 800 mhz systems see more use, it would be a wise idea to either combine the two or create one system for field deployability at big events. Put all the equipment in a trailer with a geneator and put it to use on special incidents. Just my 0.02 worth

It's possible they're waiting for the FCC to approve new rebanded frquencies, and could combine all the frequencies for one trunked system? Yes, that would make sense, but as we have seen in several communities, they don't do things that make sense. They could put CTA. Streets and Sanitation, OCD, and other specialized CPD units on there for use. That would just make too much sense...LOL !

I am wondering, just out of curiosity if anyone "in the know" would care to post these changes...the people have a right to know, lol. Inquiring minds are itching with curiosity and it can only be quenched by knowledge, even if it means that it kills the cat but satisfaction brings him back!

I only had a "peek" at the draft. Was able to make some mental notes, but should be an official order to come out soon.

CPD City-Wide Updates

Quite a few major changes took effect today. Anyone who listens will notice..ET's radio call sign changes, Public Transportation etc.

Managed to get a copy of the new order and have noticed they also changed who is assigned to city-wides 1-7. Some of the notable ones include Public Transportation (Old 4100 Series, now 7300 Series) now assigned to City-Wide 5. Traffic Section Detail Units (Still 4700 Series), now assigned to City-Wide 7...makes sense as this is where TMA's are assigned. Evidence Technicians now are using 5800 Series Unit Designations, but remain on City-Wide 2. . This will take some getting used to..

Updates/ Observations

I've noticed Public Transportation Units have been using City-Wide 1 during the 1st Watch, and City-wide 5 during 2nd and 3rd Watches. Those interested might want to keep both in...not just subway usage either. Heard 7303 (Orange Line 59th st.) using City-wide 5, while others use City-Wide 1...must not have gotten the memo...LOL! Saw a discrepancy too...4800 Series Units are supposed to be Department Deployment Initiative..draft used 4500 Series Units. Have yet to hear 4800 Series used yet, but 4500 Series is up and running. Most others are following along the Radio Call Sign order.
I've taken on a task here that others may appreciate. I'm cross refrencing Command Staff and Beat Numbers and creating my own list for CPD. I am awaiting some info on the CFD side to do the same. This is quite a task, and work on it slowly and want to make it 100% correct. For most day-to-day stuff, this won't be too exciting, but when all hell breaks loose and you hear all kinds of numbers and what-not, this may come in handy. I'll see if I can add to Radioreference when i'm done...then anyone can download it and call it their own...LOL.

cpd radio changes

so does anybody out ther have a complete list of all the new unit numbers and channel allocations somebody mentioned that some of the citywide channels would be used by different parts of the department than they were assigned to originaly also what change does this bring for tac,srt,etc.... teams that are usually out there and lastly are there any other changes within the chicago emergency responders community that we should be aware of new channels, callsigns, unit numbers or district change etc.... that would help in day to day monitorng of chicago.

Yes I do....that's what I referring to. I just received CFD info today and hope to have that out too. I'm compiling updated radio signatures, names of command staff, and triple checking for accuracy. I will submit this to Radioreference for publication.
