Any chance that this will work on a 396?

Its very unlikely, as each scanner has a slightly different command interface and is quite picky. However, once this version is stabilized I'll make editions for different radios. I havent seen the control reference for the 396, but if its almost the same as the others then it should be too hard ti make a version for it.

As far as I know with uniden scanners, there is no way or need to tell the scanner which channel to use as a control. It just scans all of them and finds out which one it is when it runs into it.

Question: Where did you find the software interface specification for these scanners? I would like to take a look at them.

I wish you much success with your program. Butel seems to be the program of choice around here, but it's a lousy program, IMHO. I can't believe the arrogance of the programmer to put stuff out like this without testing it. I was in the software business for a few years and this isn't even Beta stuff - and he charges $70 for it. He won't last for long unless he get's cracking on a major bug-fix release.

Good luck. Looking forward to a 396 version.

cpuerror, it looks good but need 2 things...

You have to do imports from RR and the database. (If you need sponsership for DB access, I can help you out.)

The GPS range settings need to convert basic addresses to GPS coodinates. I like being able to put in an address (505 W Oak St, 46999) and have the application fingure it out.

I've had a couple others mention RR import and it's on the feature list. That GPS idea seems neat, i've been thinking of maybe tying the program in with Google maps. So you would type in your desired addres into google, copy the link location, and paste into FreeSCAN . Or if you had an address stored in a system, click on a button and it opens up google maps with a satellite view of the area.

I have 6 other things on the TODO list, but with time (2 or 3 weeks) the meat and potato stuff will get done and fun things can be added.

I've been actually thinking about maybe adding RR database access to FreeSCAN. Maybe one of the admins can contact me about it?

You don't need an admin - all you need is the PDF file downloaded from the link on this page to get you started.
