So we’re moving from Lancaster to Cumberland County to Mechanicsville.

I have an SDS 200.

Is this going to be a paperweight since it appears the county is on OpenSky?

That south central system (I think that’s the name) that has several counties on it, would I be able to pick that up at least?

The OpenSky system is slated to be replaced by a new P25 Phase-II system. Law enforcement will remain encrypted, as will EMS to hospital talkgroups. See discussion here. Last update given in the thread said the transition is likely to happen in Fall 2025

Mechanicburg? Yes, you should be able to monitor the Dauphin Co portion of the system from there. Not sure about the others...I havent really tried to grab them when I've been in the Mechanicsburg area.

Oh that’s nice!! So very similar to Lancaster then. Not bad!

I’ll have to try that out.

I have listened to York County from Carlisle when I was visiting there. You should get it from Mechanicsburg.

Maybe I can provide some insight since I moved to Mechanicsburg last year. In the center of town, I can hear Dauphin County in my car, but not real well in the house. I have a BCD325P25. I have a mobile UHF 2-way radio antenna connected to each. In Mechanicsburg, for now, you can get fire and EMS calls on analog channels. The VHF fire frequency seems to break up. I would say it is an issue with the relay from the 911 center since it comes in perfect (with the intermittent breakups) without an antenna even being connected. Same result with the antenna and when I am in the car also. If you've got any other questions about reception or what is all out there, feel free to reach out.

York County is a definite and so is Perry County. Again, York is hit and miss in the house. Also might depend what part of Mechanicsburg you are in. I am in the center of town. I don't have Lancaster County in unless I am traveling there. I have picked up Lebanon County on occasion.

I mean no disrespect (so please don't take this as such), but I'm totally "lost" in regards to the Coverage Map (specifically for Franklin County). It only shows (icon) One Site for Franklin County. Which in all honesty (when zooming in on location) is in-correct info. I can assure you there is No Tower at (or near that location). There are actually several Towers throughout the County (most-of-which are mountain-top sites). The "Simulcast" Sites are located atop CLARKS KNOB Mountain (above Upper Strasburg); Blue Mountain (above Blue Mountain Tunnel of Turnpike by Roxbury); Methodist Hill Mountain (near Scotland); Tuscarora Mountain (between Fort Loudon and McConnellsburg/Fulton County). Their is also a site down-in Warren Township at the municipality Township Building. Lastly atop the Franklin County Courthouse Roof (downtown Chambersburg).

Then their is a "single" Site located in the South-end of County at "SITE-C" (Mt. Quirauk) above "High Rock" near Waynesboro, PA.

The "Main Head-end" is located at the 911 Center within the Letterkenny Army Depot outside of Chambersburg.

Their has been discussion of eventually adding (2) additional sites in the County to help with poor coverage area(s): in/near South Mountain; and the other near Doyelsburg, PA. But nothing has transpired as-of-yet on these.

I'm just offering this additional information since the Coverage Map is mis-leading.

Sincerely !!!!
