As a novice newbie, is this a good location to ask questions? I feel really lost.

Lost in Space.......

Sorry if I'm crashing in, I just bought a Pro 197 and I'm lost.
I've tried to get information from the "help", but they only send me little snippits of info.

I cannot find any police or hwy patrol frequencies. The "help" told me that I can see all of the frequencies, but when I search the database, there isn't any police or hwy patrol. Most of the frequencies listed are old or are just for city admin, etc. They said it's the same frequencies if I join premium or not.

I'm looking for a source for Dakota Cty, Apple Valley and surrounding areas as well as Henn Cty, etc.

I'm starting to think I bought an expensive paperweight.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I was able to locate and download what I (think) I wanted--Dak Cty, Henn Cty, etc and I can see that it scans those frequencies.......I just never hear anything except one frequency that I manually loaded.

RR.com has so much info that digs down so deep that I would never be able to read it all, let alone understand it all. It's like a library with a million books. Great reasource, but OMG !
I'm either making this much more difficult than it needs to be or I've got a LOT of work ahead of me.

Dakota Co cna be heard on the Dakota COunty Subsystem tower 103
control channel: 868.56250
alt control channels: 866.16250 868.06250 868.31250
They can also be heard on some other systems also but I haven't checked that out yet.

I realize this post is four yeas old but I am wondering if this info is still correct?

I am currently using a Pro-197 to pickup Bloomington, Richfield, Airport Police and State Patrol. Everything seems to work great on the Hennepin County system. However, I have been trying to get Burnsville Police and Fire to work on the Dakota County 103 system and I hear nothing. The frequencies listed in the RR database for the Dakota 103 system are completely different from what is posted in the quote above. I have ALL 8 Dakota frequencies (the ones posted above, and the ones listed in the RR database) programed into my scanner and I still hear nothing.

I am located in east Bloomington. I am wondering if I am just to far away from the tower to receive the signal?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Those control channels are not correct, the ones ones in the RR database are. The freqs you posted are before rebanding as they are in the 868 range. You should be able to pickup the Dakota system in Bloomington. Just program the correct control channels listed in RR.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I had the correct control channels programed in the scanner for the last few weeks and I couldn't hear anything. Just tonight is when I programed in the channels posted above to see if that was the problem. Either way.... all 8 of the channels are now currently programed in the scanner so even if one of them is correct, I should still hear something, but I don't.

I have the Dakota County Law Enforcement talk groups programed, along with a few specific Burnsville talk groups. Is there a specific Dakota talk group that I need to hear Burnsville Police dispatch? Maybe I am missing a specific talk group? This is a tad frustrating since Hennepin County works great, but I seem to be having trouble with Dakota? Weird.

Thanks again.

Manually tune to the control channel of Dakota County and see what your decode rate. You may be getting simulcast distortion that is inhibiting your reception. Other than that something is not programmed correctly. I am not sure what TG Burnsville PD is dispatched on but if you have all 3 of the Dakota PD TG's and if your signal is ok you should hear something. I am in Eden Prairie and can get the Dakota system with no issues so something is not right with your setup.

Maybe someone who know Dakota County could chime up. I really only listen to Dakota Fire West and the Eagan Fire Ops talkgroups and I know one of the firefighters.

I, too had that issue this morning driving through Dakota County. I had all of the law and fire talkgroups on and listened for about a half hour both to and from Mpls. I had just checked the control channels in the RR database last night after reading these posts. Mpls FD worked well, as did Rochester SP, North Ambulance and Northfield Ambulance on the Rice County towers. It had been sometime since I had tried to listen to Dakota County.
