I have not been following DPD in this migration thus far but have been listening to DFR on NTIRN and legacy UHF and it sounds like a work in progress no doubt. Just wondering if anyone has an update on what has been migrated thus far and/or any timelines, etc. Just curious...

From what I've seen posted previously, Dallas PD is moving patrol divisions one at a time. Central Patrol is using the new system heavily, as is Traffic and to a lesser extent Southwest. But at this time, you can still hear the traffic on their legacy Uhf frequencies.

Dallas Fire Rescue is also straddling the line between old & new systems. Seeing radio IDs for many of the field units, but again, the same conversations are also heard on Uhf. At this point, I'm still hearing units being told to use the existing simplex fireground channels 11 & 12. None, so far, being told to use the TGIDs on the trunked system.

DPD Central Dispatch has some terrible audio transmissions at times, and definitely needs to be tweaked. Much louder than other talkgroups (whereas the OTHER TG's sound EQUAL across the board), and echoey garbled at times, even on my Unication G4. Hopefully the radio techs are recognizing this as they go along.

You would think because the techs are hearing the same issues you are ? It does take a little time to fix issues like this

I really hope they improve the overall quality on the NTIRN system. I monitor NTIRN at the same time as the conventional channels and am disappointed with the NTIRN system. It does eliminated some of the background noise on a few departments but the audio is not necessarily better and the scan speed is significantly lower.

It sounds like a patch issue.
If you monitor UHF, the new trunking patch sounds overmodulated.
If you monitor the new trunking system, the UHF units sound terrible.
DPD 1 and 2 are pretty bad. Not monitored any other channels. DFR is not great but not near as bad as the 2 DPD channels. At least its temporary.

What are you monitoring it with? Scan speed time has nothing to do with the system its self. Thats going to be how you have your device set up.
With all the patches in place and so many units not switched over to the new system its going to sound like crap. UHF units sounds great on UHF channels and units on the new system sound good when monitoring the new system. But UHF units sound bad on the new system and visa versa, units on the new system sound bad on the UHF side. The patches are temporary while units get switched over.

I have to be honest here.
I would have thought that since they are using multi band radios all the units would have the radios ready to go and then on a set day make the switch for all users while keeping the UHF up just in case there are bugs or issues. Not having some on both systems while radios are updated or installed or reprogrammed or what ever this path is they have taken.

This is what Garland did when they went to the GMRS system. All fire units were told to make the switch on a set date. One day the analog Type 2 system was busy and next date all quiet. At least thats how i remember it.

I am monitoring NTIRN with a SDS100 and the conventional channels with a variety of radios FT60, 991A, and even an old PRO106 which all sound better and scan faster.

I'm curious where the rest of Dallas Co. is, no County fire, no jails, no courtesy patrol?

Are you monitoring Layer 1 or 2? I'm wondering which layer DFD and DPD will finally show up on??

From what i am hearing on the scanner Layer 1 seems primarily public safety with layer 2 being non public safety and some public safety. But as of the past weekend i have decided to lock out Layer 2 and focus on layer 1.

Courtesy Patrol no longer operates on their old VHF frequency. The trucks unit to unit and dispatch use Zello app and phones, however in the TxDot ops center they still have access to DPD radio for "999" assistance. Courtesy Patrol operates out of TxDot Mesquite HQ, and that is where their home base and trucks are located.

Earlier today, I heard a fairly lengthy fire training exercise on TGID 36012. This was Cedar Hill, based on unit IDs given (Engines 211 & 212, among others, are Cedar Hill units). While it 'sounded' as if a working fire, I did catch the announcement that it an exercise, not an active incident.

I was not hearing similar activity on the existing SWRCC NXDN system. Normal dispatch for PD & FD units for these cities were still in use, and not patched to NTIRN (at least, I did not hear them on NTIRN).

If 36012 does pan out to be SWRCC related training, that falls within should be the expected range of TGIDs for those cities. Earlier in this thread, Ben mentioned that he suspected that TGID 36003 may well be the probable PD dispatch channel for those three cities.

It's back, but only on layer 2 currently.
The voice coming across on NTIRN sounds slightly different than the old 'Dispatch Debbie' on the Uhf dispatch channel. Perhaps the patch between the two is causing that.

Have y'all been picking up TG32021 (Station Radio)? I have trouble picking up layer 2 and was wondering if it was active. The VHF station radio channel just stopped working.
