I have a Uniden BC250D scanner with the digital card installed. I'm trying to pick up the Dauphin system with this scanner. So far I can't seem to pick anything up using the frequencies from here. I am able to pick the system up on a Radio Shack Pro-197 using the same frequencies from here. Here's my question; is the BC250D scanner with the digital card installed capable of receiving this system? Is anyone using a Uniden 250d scanner with digital card with this system? I haven't programmed any other APCO 25 systems and there aren't any around my house.

Thanks,
Robert

Where are you trying to listen from, because dauphins coverage outside of the county is spotty. That said, your scanner cant track a p25 system control channel. If it has the digital card installed it CAN decode p25 voice so you are able to program the voice channels in a scanlist and scan them conventionally. This allows you to hear all the activity onthe system, but its practically useless on this system because 75% of the tgs are encrypted. Your radio is not able to tell the difference in which talkgroup may be talking, so it will randomly bounce thru every conversation, included the annoying encrypted ones, without letting you actually track who is talking or the ability to ignore the encryption.

Sorry to bring the bad news, the best option is saving up for a different model or making a trade if you have enough interest in monitoring dauphin.

Thanks for the information. I'm not too familiar with trunking. I also have a Uniden 996T. Can that scanner track the Dauphin county system? I commute through Dauphin county daily from 81 South through Lebanon county and into Dauphin county ending up in center city Harrisburg.

Thanks,
Robert

Your BCD996T will work just fine on the Dauphin County P-25 Digital Radio system once you have it programmed. It will also handle the York County P-25 Digital Radio system and the new Lancaster County P-25 Digital Radio system when it comes on line.

The BCD996 T is a good workhorse of a radio and will serve you well. The Lebanon County EDACS system can also be monitored with your scanner.

Enjoy ,
Terry

Sorry to knock you down terry but that is completly untrue. Period. It cant track the control channel of a 9600 p25 cc. It just can not do it. As mentioned by myself and others, it can decode p25 voice, but will not decode a p25 trunking system, such as dauphins, yorks, and the one lancaster is building out.

Sorry

Robert,

Like i said before your BCD996T will do just fine on the new systems for Dauphin, York, and Lancaster when it comes out. I have over a hundred of these units out and working just fine with no recalls.

There are very few scanners that will work on the new digital systems for Dauphin, York, and Lancaster when it comes on line.

Here is the list. GRE-600, PRO-197, PRO-106, BCD396T, BCD396XT, BCD996T, and BCD996XT.

If you would like help with programming your scanner please send me an e-mail.

Let's be clear

I'm trying to get a Uniden BCD996T scanner to work on the Dauphin APCO25 system. There appears to have been conflicting information provided as to whether it can decode APCO25 voice or track the 9600 baud control channel.

What I've done so far. I have a couple of the scanner programming software packages. Using Free Scan, I've programmed the system from the RR database to the radio. In CC Scan (I'm guessing this is the track mode) While in the Harrisburg area around the farm show complex, I see the signal strength on the meter indicated as though its picking something up, it doesn't stop scanning and I hear nothing.

A co-worker of mine has purchased the Pro 197 scanner from RS. I programmed that scanner using PSREdit software and the same RR database and this scanner picks the system up fine.

Instead of this thread turning into a it can and cant do this thread I'd like to take this offline to email. If anyone is in the Harrisburg area, and has or uses a Uniden BCD996T scanner i'd like to discuss how to program the scanner manually so that I can get a better understanding of how this system works. This might turn out to be an issue of the software being used to program the scanner but since I'm not familiar with manually programming an APCO25 system I can't be sure.

If anyone has a working Uniden BCD996T system file downloaded from either of the following software packages I'm certain that I could program the radio to accept the file.

FreeScan
ARC996PRO
BCTools
Uniden's BCD996T Scanner software

Thanks everyone for all of the help and suggestions.

I'm not able to help with the manual programming, however using Proscan, I loaded the system using the RR database and can monitor it fine from northern Franklin County. I seldom monitor this system, but can do so when necessary.

Using a portable radio programmed for the system, it can be monitored fine as far south as Chambersburg, so at least to the south, the coverage is excellent.

It probably varies, depending on exactly where you are in Chambersburg. Downtown Chambersburg would likely be harder to monitor from than some of the higher elevations. I've never used a scanner to monitor from Chambersburg, only a portable radio. The radio works fine outside, but the reception drops off considerably while inside certain buildngs.

From the Greenvillage area, north to the Shippensburg area, I can pick it up fine with both a 996XT and a 996T. That is using an antenna tuned to the 490 MHz area. Not sure what you are going to get, if anything, using stock antennas. On the north side of Shippensburg, I receive it fine with just a stock antenna on both of my Uniden scanners and a Pro-197.

I can't hear the system from Chambersburg . I would like to know what I did differently. I set mine up manually though.
