At US > North Carolina > Davie (County), under Davie County > Volunteer Fire Departments is:
151.61500M85.4 PLDavie VFDWilliam R Davie VFDFMFire-Tac
but this is not a valid channel in the US (it is not licensed to anyone, anywhere, in either ULS or the unclassified NTIA list). Can someone familiar with the area comment/research?

Even though not allowed, many departments just get on a frequency they know no one else is using and call it their "private" channel. I took Iredells channels down as we now use VIPER (Davie uses VIPER now as well, so really all those channels should now go away), but before a lot of departments had their "private" channel that wasn't in the FCC database. Only departments that had a repeater for their private channel were in the database, such as our department. However, our department shared our "private" repeater with 2 other departments, but the FCC license was just under our name, not the others. Not everything will be in the FCC database as you are finding.

There has been some discussion here that Mooresville may move away from the UASI system and migrate fully to VIPER. Do you see that happening in the future? Also, if that does happen, will Statesville still stay on their own system?

From what I have heard, Mooresville is wanting to migrate off the UASI system to become one with the county, at least on the fire department side. Mooresville PD is more reluctant to switch for some reason. When they switch, the county wants Statesville to switch.

If you've ever been listening to Mooresville P.D. when they chase/pursue, they tend to go south toward Charlotte. (Yes, they can pursue LOL.) That's a big reason that UASI appeals more to MPD. From what I've heard, though, Mooresville will end up going to VIPER to work an Iredell simulcast system with the county. It would be great if Statesville would join to truly make it a countywide endeavor. This is still a few years in the making no matter what happens.

From what I've heard, Statesville has all but been threatened to switch to VIPER. Also, for an officer, it doesn't matter where you go on a chase. If you are on VIPER you have a lot more coverage than UASI. If they did end up switching to a Charlotte channel, or CMPD switches to an MPD channel to assist, the officer and radio could care less what system it is on. The officer still has to switch zones and channels in the radio, so it doesn't really matter what system they are on.

In that case, is the protocol to switch to REG PURS (Regional Pursuit)? And is that talk group easy to find or do you have to switch to a zone farther down the list?

Not sure where it is in MPDs radios or what their protocol is. But no matter what system they are on it can still be in the first zone with just the change of a knob.

drayd48 what you say is correct in theory, but not as easy to do in real time application. For an officer in a pursuit, not having to switch anything is best so as not to take their eyes off the road and suspect. It all depends on your communications center, their training, and capabilities in how they can assist, such as patching, etc. MPD can work off of the Meck north towers, so that enhances the UASI coverage and usage from their perspective. Like you said, doesn't really matter with VIPER or UASI. Both have similar capabilities, but different coverage.
