I cannot imagine a case where reapplying firmware would have fixed something like what you were seeing.

That's unfortunate because that would be a relatively simple thing to fix. If it's not some sort of disconnect between the CPU and the RF (not telling the receiver where to tune) then ... well, it's under warranty.
After the USPS drove the package around North Texas for a while, it made it to a "P Moon" at the repair shop, so we'll see at some point.
Just checking... did you check the ATTenuator?
Peter, have you received your 436 back from repair? The reason why I'm asking is all of the sudden my BCD436HP has become deaf. No signal strength bars on the screen and I can't receive stations from 15 miles away. I have never worn it on my belt and it has stayed in my shack since I bought it.
I'm interested to hear how long it took for Uniden to repair and send back your unit and also what they said was the issue. Mine is also under warranty.
UPDATED DATA BASE
J101
I did but have been pretty busy since. Turn-around was less than 2 weeks, but I'm only ~200 miles from Ft Worth.
The annoying thing is that the repair ticket said:
Code:UPDATED DATA BASE J101
As you might imagine, I had already UPDATED the DATA BASE ... and cleared user data ... and reformatted the uSD card ... and reloaded all my FLs ... and Force Write Full Database... etc, etc, etc.
But the radio worked after I got it back and it didn't work when I shipped it off.
Glad I have it back, working, but am not impressed.
I am glad its back working for you. Looks like it was user error. Should be a lesson to anyone else before you send it in recheck the settings multiple times to make sure the scanner is set up properly.

So the J101 note means nothing? I would think they repaired or replaced J101.
I guess you didn't read the part where I said I'd already reloaded the DB, cleared the user data, reloaded everything, formatted the uSD card, etc, etc.
All it says is "J101". Not "replaced J101" or "tightened J101" or "lubricated J101" just "J101".
I've not seen a schematic for the x36 so I have no idea if there even is a J101. And if there was, it'd be a jack of which there are three on a 436HP (audio, serial, USB).

That's pretty funny thnks for laugh.

I think J101 is shorthand for an internal issue and means fixed/replaced/tightened/lubricated/straightened/looked funny at/unbroke/whatever.
Really, does it matter? Your scanner works now. It was fixed.
Actually, it does matter since I had already done what they said they did (save for the mysterious "J101").
The next time this happens, I'd like to believe that reloading the data base will fix it saving time and shipping cost. Except that I did that before I ever sent it off.
So yeah, it kinda does matter.
