I'm looking for a low cost airband receiver to use as a dedicated rig for ACARS. Does anyone know of any kits possibly? I've seen the ramsey ones but I'd have a heck of a time tuning the frequency with one of those. I was thinking that a crystal set would work just fine but I haven't seen crystal kit radios anywhere. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas as to what might do the trick?

Doctor <chuckle> even an old base like a BC250 or 300 would do the trick. You don't need anything fancy, as you have suggested in your message. If you buy one of the older programmables, then you can check - though not necessarily scan - the other ACARS freqs with a minimum of fuss and bother.
