Anybody use them? Was using Diskeeper for, well, forever. Started getting BSOD's. Had to run chkdsk. NOT fun on a TB disk (takes well over an hour)! Just installed O&O. Will see.

I'm currently using Disk Defrag - Reclaim the Speed Of Your Disks

No problems, yet...

What brand and model is your hard drive btw?

You should only defrag at least once a month, if that. Unless your like me and space is ruining dry and/or constantly moving massive amounts of data where fragmentation will be high. CD images on drives are a no, no. I have several of those and need to create a partition for those along.

I also use Ccleaner in conjunction with AusLogics Registry Defrag.

Might also be interested in these. ERUNT and NTREGOPT

One more! :D HD Tune If you run it, click the health tab, I'm curious.

Yeah. Images are "bad". Use them A LOT. Try not to keep to many on my drive, though.

I had/have Diskeeper/O&O set to defrag when it is needed.

+1 on Auslogic's Disk Defrag, and CCleaner! I haven't found anything faster than Auslogic's Disk Defrag. No problems of any kind.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will keep them in mind. I REALLY can't wait until I get my copy of Windows 7. My PC has been needing a reload for some time. No sense in reloading XP when 7 is coming out next month. Just trying to limp along and make the best of it until then.

i was just getting ready to ask what OS, but you answered that for me. if you had 7 or Vista you really dont need a defrag program unless your doing some serious HDD activity 24/7 as these two handle defrag alone, and do it very well. they even took out defrag from the Admins Applet in control panel

Seagate barracuda 7200.11 drives failing - The Inquirer

Funny you have a Seagate, because I have an older model here that started making noise, so I Googled it and found that the film on the platter or whatever comes off. Nothing but probs. it seems from that manufacture. I'm looking at a Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Seagate Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looked at the manufacture's website on the specs, and I'm impressed thus far. I especially like the non-contact head with the platter.

Interesting. http://www.wdc.com/en/library/2579-850105.pdf

Exactly. Come on Oct 24!

Yeah on the HDD. I did download the SeaTools windows version and let it run. Was thinking the drive was starting to go, but, it passed. I ran the llllloooooonnnnngggggg surface scan test as well. I also checked if a new firmware version was available as I saw a "Recommended" firmware for my series drive, but, my specific model wasn't included. Used the online checker to determine if it needed it.

I've already got a new WD TB drive that I'm going to use to load 7 on. It's an unhooked HDD that I loaded the RC on. Gonna use the Seagate as storage.

Make sure to run AusLogics Registry Defrag. after Ccleaner... Ccleaner is good at the temp files crap and some registry stuff, but AusLogics Registry Defrag. takes care of the rest. Only two you will need. Unless there is one that does both. I'm sure there is.

My bad!! Wrong program! It's Eusing Free Registry Cleaner Freeware download and review - remove invalid registry entries from SnapFiles

That's the one that will pick up what Ccleaner won't. Be careful with it though. It does create backups, so no worries.

Note: There is a nag register screen, but you can just click skip every time.

I do have AusLogics Registry Defrag too. Only prudent to run every six months or so.
