Hate to tell you ND5Y.. the source is in the Sheriffs office who is very well versed in commercial LMR and amateur radio and with the planning and build out of the system. So No BS.. Thanks for your speculation

The only other possibility is that the state of Illinois is allowing them to operate under the 700 MHz State License WPTZ798. I don't know how likely that would be or if it has happend in other areas. There are no 700 MHz general pool frequencies (SY) licensed to anyone in DeKalb County, much less a manufacturer like EFJ/Kenwood. That's not how the 700 MHz SY licensing works.
no, if that was the case, if would be apart of STARCOM...IL just isn't going to give those away if they already have a current lic for themThe only other possibility is that the state of Illinois is allowing them to operate under the 700 MHz State License WPTZ798. At Sandwich Fair yesterday and interesting to see DeKalb Deputies with Kenwood portables and NON PS mikes . Looked like half wave whips on the portables but no antennas on their mikes. Didn't want to bother any of them working to ask about coverage etc.
Went live today.
Confirmed TGs:
148 Sheriff's Deputies
137 Sandwich PD
28 Fire
174 Sycamore PD

Dont be so sure it won't be... It's still in a trial phase subject to change at any timeHappy to hear the system isn't totally encrypted as previously reported it would be.

Digital was not confused with Encryption as my source knows plenty well what the difference is.. Let's put it this way.. the sheriff know all it takes is a matter of seconds to change it..
