DeKalb P25

I ran ARC in logging mode for several hours yesterday, although really didn't get to listen. The already ID'd TGs registered the most hits obviously...
...here are some often-used TG's that I don't have an ID for yet.

6256 (36 hits)
6151 (33 hits)
6078 (28 hits)
6091 (18 hits)

all other UID TGs had less than 5 hits. Just FYI, RC

I've got to express my joy in monitoring the new DeKalb DTRS. Not sure if other scanner enthusiasts experienced all the static and poor coverage areas (within DeKalb County) on the old analog system but I sure did. And my office is located about two blocks from fire station #1 so you would think I should be able to pick up a good signal. But it was always sporadic and more often than other former analog systems, transmissions were marked with a lot of static.

So I for one am really enjoying a static-free signal and my BC396XLT is receiving a very clear digital signal, even more understandable than the Cobb DTRS signal - consistently.

Why cant I pick up anything(Fire) on the new DeKalb System? Seems to have gone silent early this morning(May 28). BCD 996T with latest freqs and TG's programmed in.

Not having a 996, the only thing that I can recommend to check to make sure that you have all the CC's programmed in. Currently, the main CC is 854.3125. The alternates are 854.6375, and 854.6125. If you are using software, check and make sure that everything is programmed for P-25 trunktracking. My 106 will do it automatically. I'm sure that someone with a 996 will step in and help:)

Larry, thanks for the reply. Im wondering if it is "user error" since I actually had someone program it form me while I walked them thru over the phone but we went slow and Im pretty sure we got everything correct. I checked CC's and thats what we put in. Are you(or anyone else) currently hearing traffic from DKFD? I havent heard a word.
Thanks again

Did they program it manually, or, using software? Just out of curiousity, where are you located? I know when I get out of the RF hole I live in, De Kalb comes in loud and clear.

Larry, they programmed in manually. Scanner is located near P.I.B. and Jimmy Carter Blvd Norcross area.

Larry, also I had old DeKalb system in and sounded pretty good so just wasnt sure if they went encrypted for the digital switchover.

Nope. In the clear for most everything on the P-25 system. Where you are located should be ideal for scanning De Kalb. Did you have the Atlanta P-25 put in? There is a ScanIn coming up soon one of these Saturdays. We will be meeting at the PDK airport. I know that some of the people coming have 996's, and might be able to clone yours. Just a thought.

Here are some things I would check:

1. Make sure all the CCs are programmed and that no other freqs are programmed
2. Make sure the DeKalb system is programmed as a "P25" system; if it's input as a standard Motorola 800 MHz system, it won't work
3. Make sure the Lockout is set to "unlocked"

Part of the problem with the Uniden scanners is that once you program them, to my knowledge, there's no way to go back and be sure it's input as a "P25" or "Standard Motorola" system.

Yell if these things don't work. I'm willing to bet it's programmed NOT as a "P25" system

Hmm well your number 1 may be my problem. I have all freqs programmed in, not just the CCs. however Im pretty sure the 996t only lets you program CC only if its Motorola and not P-25

I have both the 396T and the 396XLT and they are a little different but I believe the 396T is almost identical to the 996T. I just tried programming a new "P25" system. Here are the steps it asks/allows:

1. Program "New Systrem"
2. Program Conventional, Motorola, EDCS, LT
3. Assuming you enter "Motorola", it then asks: "P25" or "800MHz Standard", or "800MHz Splinter" or "900MHz Band" or "VHF Band" or "UHF Band"
4. Once you enter "P25" it then asks you to confirm it - Yes or No
5.Once you confirm "yes", it then allows you to enter Name. System Options, Frequencies, etc.

Does that help? I'll be glad to talk live on the phone if you need to. Always hate to see a scanner buddy who can't listen to anything

To prgrm mine, the steps are.
1 System type: Conv, Mot type 1, Mot type 2/P-25, Edacs etc
2. I click on Mot2/P-25, then edit site, new site, then it gives options, and once I select the P-25 option, I no longer get the option to use CC's only. Only if I select Motorola does it leave me that option.

Part of my problem is that Im not in ATL at this time and was having someone else try to program scanner over the phone. I will try suggestions given. May have been simply a typo error when he was putting in freqs since I wasnt there observing.(Where is that video phone when I need it)

Go to ScanNow.org - The Home of FreeSCAN! and download their program. It's free and make life a whole lot easier! If you have the programming cable, drop me a PM and I'll send you my code plug.
