On-line feed

I've been listening to the on-line scanner feed from the Scan Dekalb website, and while it's great the digi system is being streamed the audio sounds very hot, or overmodulated. Is this the way the system sounds on a scanner? Or does the host scanner/computer have it's settings too high? I also notice the traffic - lots of fire/ems but police sounds limited to the Tucker Pct?
I live away now and it's cool to keep up with. I remember growing up down there and listening to Dekalb on the 460MHz band. I still remember the old callsign of KSQ477 on fire 460.525 and KLE867 on police 460.100, 460.225 and 460.450. In fact, I can remember when Atlanta Police was on VHF and sounded great on a big, tunable Radio Shack unit. When they switched to 460 UHF I was bummed because those radios weren't out yet. How times have changed!

IMBE being demodulated then re-encoded to MP3/WMA just sounds awful no matter what the source is, but that is digital. Moving from one codec to another is never going to be as clean as starting from true analog to digital. Just the way it is.

I remember when every metro agency was on UHF, back in the 80's and early 90's, Cobb was 460.325, 460.375 and 460.5. Those repeater really reached out. Most of the cities in Cobb were still VHF. Cobb fire was on low band! FYI the old 460.4 is still used by DeKalb county school board, transportation to be exact, very active during the school days.

APD still kept a couple of the old 460 repeaters up until the early 2000's, 460.15 and 460.2. They were used by the ambassadors before finally moving to the 800 TRS (and now the new ATL DTRS). The only part of the old UHF ATL system in use is Comnet on 453.25. Atlanta fire stopped simulcasting on VHF (154.19) in 1997. Most of their fire stations still have VHF antennas. Fulton county used to simulcast fire dispatch on their old frequency of 154.325 until a few years ago.

6167 is very active today with traffic enforcement, along pretty much all of I-285 and I-20 in the county. Several Kilo, Motor, Star, and Tac (?) units each calling in traffic stops and registration checks almost non-stop. H.E.A.T. perhaps? Helicopter just joined in..

6257 is Chamblee PD TAC as suggested above.

Overheard on 6071:
"H I J K trailers are locked and armed"

6097: Jail?
"Go to medical to sign a refusal"
"Inmate's name..."
"Put that name in logbook by that entry"

6137:
"Testing 1-10"

6151: Narcotics, vice, or something similar, frequently used as a talk-around. Stakeouts, undercover, drug dealers, pimps.

6078: Georgia Perimeter College?
"1628, locked and secured, staff members in the bldg"
"Signal 3 at loading dock"
"10-94 lot 1 and 2"
"Signal 3A, door ajar, 1000 and 2000"
"10-94, lot 6"
"H-hotel lot is secure"
"Class going on in C-charlie"
"Am locking B-bravo, 2nd floor is locked, still have classes on 1st floor"

IMBE just sounds awful.

Why yes, yes it does! :D

Dekalb is on 460.1 and .4, what a freakin zoo. I used to work on them, the drivers habitually left the bus windows open letting the radio get rained on.

6063: County PD, Code Enforcement

6092: Sheriff, TAC (referred to as "2")
6093: Sheriff, Courts
6096: Sheriff, Jail (2)
6097: Sheriff, Jail (3)

Filling in the blanks for the Sheriff TGIDs based on the old system, that leaves:

6094: Sheriff, Fugitive
6095: Sheriff, Jail (1)
6098: Sheriff, Admin
6099: Sheriff, Command
6100: Sheriff, Special Ops

...but I can't confirm those yet.

6211: Roads/Drainage
6214: Possibly Water/Sewage or Roads/Drainage (talk of headwalls and 18" pipes)
6220: Sanitation
6223: Sanitation
6231: Possibly Traffic Engineering

6258: Chamblee PD TAC-2

Is anyone using a PRO-96 or 2096 to monitor DeKalb's P25 system? I have one programmed up for a relative to listen to DeKalb and she tells me it's displaying 96: and the SysID in the bottom line, but she can't get it to decode at any % rate above 0%.

I'm wondering if this newer P25 system can't be decoded by a 96/2096.

Used my 96 on Pro96com for weeks decoding the De Kalb system. I live in N Gwinnett. Do you have the correct 850Mhz CC's programmed in? Another thing, stock rubber duck? Is she located in De Kalb county? Make sure the squelch control is all the way counter clockwise. We gots to know to help:)
