So tell me how to do a dept hold on a dept that the scanner is not currently stopped on? I would like to able to go to a particular dept and hold on it without having to wait for the scanner to stop on that dept with activity and then press dept hold. At times I have been able to do it (see below) but other times it doesn't work. Cannot figure out if its a glitch or operator error or some other random unrelated setting or state of operation thats causing it to act like this.
To explain better, I am monitoring only one p25 phase 2 non-lsm system with many depts and tg's in each and 5 sites it cycles thru. No priority or wx activated and no depts are locked out. At times I have been able to press "dept hold" (while scanning) and then turn the knob to scroll to desired dept and then press hold again. Scanner would hold on selected dept. Yet other times I would do this exact same thing and scanner would resume scanning as soon as dept hold was pressed the second time on desired dept.
The scanner has no issue holding on a dept when hold is pressed while that dept is active. If you turn the knob or press hold again (while still on orig dept) it will resume scanning in a second or two, hence why I pressed hold a second time when scrolling to a different dept to hold on. Here again, sometimes it'll hold and other times no. Any idea?
Thx Sly

After the initial hold you'll have to wait 2 seconds to make it "stick", the display will change to indicate that. Press hold again and begin scrolling before the display changes again, within 1 second, or it will "unhold".

That's good to know!
Is there an easy way to turn the departments off and on? You would think you can do it from the main menu but I don't see a way.

Use Quick Keys. They are set up in Sentinel (easiest) or through the keypad.

For example Favorites List 1 has a Favorites List Quick Key of 1, which contains a System with a System Quick Key of 2, which in turn contains a Department with a Department Quick Key of 3. To toggle that Department On/Off, you'd press "1.2.3 eYes". (Periods are important separators).

Might seem a little daunting at first, but when you think about it, this isn't much different than addressing a letter. You need City/State, Street Name and House Number.

Thanks Ubbe, I'll give that a try next chance I get. So it is a timing thing more/less as to why it would/wouldn't work. I'll have to look for that change on the screen you're talking about.

Sparker: Yeah quick keys is how to do it. It is a bit hard to figure out how to set up, what to assign to what quick key and how to turn off and on. Esp if you're familiar with the "older" way Uniden used to do it with , systems, banks, groups, channels. The newer way adds another layer of flexibility but also makes it tougher to figure out on your own plus coupled with some newer terminology.

As for terminology, never figured out the need of why Uniden changed the word "lockout" to "avoid".
