Denver U/D: Command is holding all 2nd alarm companies, reporting fire is contained but needing units for flareups and overhaul. Add Div Chief, PIO, Airlight and lots of media to the scene.

The homeowner of 2411 S. St. Paul Street was taken to a hospital shortly after 1 p.m. for injuries from the fire.

Denver Fire says the fire started just before 1 p.m. and spread to 2425 S. St. Street Paul as well.

A short time later, the blaze was changed to a two-alarm fire and at least 46 firefighters are on scene with 12 apparatus.

By 1:30 p.m. crews said the fire was still present but under control.

9NEWS has a crew at the scene and will continue to provide updates as soon as they become available.

DENVER -- The owner of a newly rebuilt home turned on the gas dryer for the first time Wednesday when it exploded and sparked a large fire, destroying the high-end home, firefighters said.

The homeowner, who is in his 50s, has significant burn injuries and has been transported to the hospital. His name has not been released.

The home on fire is located on South St. Paul Street near East Wesley Avenue. The flames quickly moved through the home and encroached a neighbor's house as well.

When firefighters first arrived, the flames were so large and intense that they thought a nearby house might go up in flames as well so they called in a second-alarm and requested help.

The first house, which was recently "scraped" and rebuilt, appears totaled, a 7NEWS photographer said. It had luxurious wooden panels on the outside and a red stone roof.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.

The second home has fire damage to the corner of the garage.

Firefighters said it was tough putting out the blaze because the new house was built with so many smaller rooms that the fire was "compartmentalized."
