The Omaha city official in charge of homeland security could use a little more security at home.
Don Thorson's pickup truck was stolen after he left it in his driveway overnight with the keys on the seat or console, according to police reports.
The retired Omaha deputy police chief called police after noticing his 2006 Nissan Titan was gone on Feb. 19. The theft occurred sometime between midnight and 7 a.m.
Inside the truck were Thorson's city identification card, access card to the city parking garage and a GPS system.
Thorson is Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey's deputy chief of staff and the city's homeland security grant coordinator. He retired from the police force in 2006.
Omaha police recovered the truck on Sunday near 60th and N Streets.
It had been abandoned after someone crashed it into a chain-link fence, causing damage to the truck's front end.
The truck was towed to the city impound lot, where police will examine it for evidence.
Hmmm, apparently they don't listen to OPD's No Keys For Thieves program either....
