So I have found three places that sell this antenna but I am not sure if it comes with the N connector. Can someone help me since I know jack about this hobby?

The Diamond version comes with an SO239 that accepts a PL259 (CB type) connector. The one marketed by ICOM comes with a Type N connector.

Diamond has two different models of essentially the same antenna.. the D-130J with the SO239 and the D-130NJ, with the N connector. If you plan to listen to UHF/800, the N connector will likely perform better.

Hope that helps,
- Matt

D-130NJ Source

Just purchased and installed a D-130NJ replacing a D-130J (+/- 20 years of service).

Made a noticeable difference here- especially on VHF.

I have no affiliation with this company aside from being a satisfied customer. Online ordering, good price, quick shipping and direct pass-thru of actual shipping charges.

A D-130 would be really big and bulky to have inside your condo, especially by a window.

Just bought one also from the same place. I wonder if they give discounts to radioreference members?

I have one that I currently use with my BCT8 and signals come in SO MUCH better than any rubber ducky, magnet mount antenna I have ever used. Trust me it will be the best $30 you have ever spent.

That's not enough metal. The metal is to act as a groundplane for your antenna. It should be close to a 1/4 wavelength at the frequency that you are listening to. If you can't do that, fasten some wire radials of the appropriate length to the metal base. That will improve your reception.

thanks Mikey54,

I am mostly listen to 800 's freq , the metal I am using is a four inch Electrical outlet box cover, the antenna itself is 36 " high, ( I WAS READING somewhere that a 28" x 28" plane of metal for 800 is good but thats a little crazy too big lol I would rather try the wire radials , Question is
how and where would I attach it and what length and what type of wire to use .

thanks again
