I want to be able to switch back and forth on two different antennas on my 996P2 using a Diawa CS201A two pole switch , it mentions that it goes up to 600mgz but that must mean for transmitting, will it pass signals in the 700-800 MHz...TY

IF you have the correct adapters, Try a CATV Splitter. They typically will pass frequencies up 1 Ghz. or more.

There's probably some additional loss when you start getting up higher in frequency, but it's going to work fine for your scanner. The limitation is probably due to the UHF connectors, which tend to be less than ideal performers when you get up above UHF.

But it will work.

How would that work for switching between 2 antennas?
I used a splitter for 1 Antenna between 2 scanners with RG 6 cable and adapters, until I bought my Stridsberg Multicoupler which works MUCH better . There's no physical switch on most splitters. They combine the signal from the input.

Cool! But the OP wants to switch between 2 antennas on the same scanner. Maybe I'm missing something...it is only Tuesday after all.

Yes on the trunked Illinois P25 system to be scanned on 700-800 mgz , one outside antenna hears VHF-UHF very well and. P25 tower close by and the other antenna to switch over to gets a Illinois Starcom tower better 25 miles away ,…I have the proper connectors to hook up the Diawa right to the connection on the scanner, for $40 ya can’t go wrong, TY very much all for your help ,…

A properly spec'd diplexer would do the trick, not a cable TV splitter.

But if you've got the switch, it gives you some flexibility. I'm pretty sure I've got one of those in my junk drawer.
