• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Who cares (besides you), the self-appointed Radio Reference Police, Type Acceptance Enforcement Division?

One would think YOU as a radio hobbyist would. One would think You as a person would care.
If you dont like the rules work to change them. Just because there is no one enforcing them doesnt
mean you should ignore them.

hmm, No one cares, Maybe a note to the Falmouth VFD chief about the illegal radio and a copy of the article about the Indianapolis police dept using ham radio and the FCC actions against them. If no one cares it couldn't hurt any one.

Hey guys- I have a Yaesu FT-2400 mounted in my truck for VFD work

Maybe I missed it somewhere in all the posts, but I don't recall seeing the OP say that he was using his Yaesu to transmit. It doesn't state that the radio had been modified from it's original design. Current design of most Amature equipment will not let you transmit on frequencies intended for public safety. They will act as a receiver and allow you to monitor those frequencies. So, I'm taking a guess that this radio is being used to monitor his fire department frequenices, and that is not illegal.

Again, I may have missed it, but just from this passage, it seems as though the radio is being used to monitor his VFD channels and that is not illegal. I myself do the same thing on my amature rig. I monitor my local fire department frequenices. So, unless all the facts are know, just comment on what is written and not add anything to it.

firetaz834;1134244 Again said:
He says for VFD work and in his signature lines he list several radio and NO commercials radios.
While he doesnt say he transmitted I am betting he was using it as so and from the thread other are as well.
The 2400 was popular for modding out of band, heck a guy on ebay was selling them as EMS/FIRE radios.

It wasn't the OP, but this guy who most of the answers are aimed at.
:
It is not illegal to use the radio for VFD duties as long as authorized be the chief or communications director, and when transmitting on the fire band frequencies used for official use. I have a mobile radio mounted in my POV that was issued to me by my department. I see no reason that he cannot use the radio if it has been approved through his chief.

I am willing to bet that WCU doesn't hold any license himself and is merely a wacker trying to stir the pot.

Just because other people run modded radios doesnt make it legal.

Has anyone noticed that the op hasn't posted in any thread since everyone crapped this thread? Great job people. We crapped this op's thread so bad he hasn't posted, way to keep the people alive here. Plus we never got an answer to the op's post. If people want to start a debate, start your own thread and stop crapping others. My 2 cents again. I guess it's a good thing I'm not a modderator here.
